Hi Linda,
We are planning a trip to an all inclusive on Jamiaca this July. Can you give us your thoughts on the Couples resort, how you liked it, why you choose Couples, and would you go back. Any info would be great. We are so undecided as to which resort we should go to. Thanks

Prices:
bottle of beer on the beach?
bottle of beer in the store?
Rum and ? on the beach?
Toast eggs and spuds at a local place?
Catch of the day at a local place?
We are staying at the Samsara in March (cliffs area). We are a little worried as we normally stay in Mexico (Isla Mujeres) and know that prices are higher in Jamaica.

there are no "prices"! Couples is an all-inclusive package, all drinks no matter on beach, at, bar, or in room are covered and so are tips for that matter. The food is included too. you pay one price before you go and that's it!!! We haven't been to Couples but went to Sandals Negril and it was so great and so much to do, you don't leave resort so who knows about prices in town! all-inclusive is the way to go! By the way loved Jamaica so much more (better deluxe and luxurious resorts restaurants etc!) than Mexico and Cancun cozumel in particular!

We decided on Couples this way. We wanted an adults only resort and we wanted to be in Negril. We thought the water sports would be better in Bloody Bay than on 7 mile beach because of clamer water (and we were correct). Couples was great and when we go back, we will either stay again at Couples or Grand Lido (which also is on Bloody Bay next to Couples) according to which one we get the better price at. This was my first time for the nude beach and I loved it as I really didn't want to wear clothes again.

I'll try...
bottle of beer on the beach? cheapest red stripes at 3 Dives on cliffs or Irie Vibes cybercafe on the beach (near Beach House villas) - 50-60J (about $1.50US) Heineken and Dragon Stout are a bit more. Hard to find other brands.
bottle of beer in the store? We bought cases and I can't remember how much but if you return the bottles and get the deposit back, much cheaper than at a bar.
Rum and ? on the beach? Rum punch is cheap like red stripe, frozen rum drinks were maybe $200J, and there are 2 for 1 and sunset specials all over the place.
Toast eggs and spuds at a local place? $5 or less. At a local place, much less, at a nice tourist place (like the Boat Bar next to Rondel Village right on the beach, full-on-you-can't-finish-it plate is $5.
Catch of the day at a local place? $5, dinnertime fish at a nicer tourist place might be $10. Lobster is like $18 for 1 1/2. Jerk chicken is cheap, beef patties are cheapest at under $1 apiece.

You will be in a great area. 3 Dives is our very favorite place in Negril and it's just up the road from you a tiny bit. Lydie and Paula are the owners and they are wonderful, friendly people. Their restaurant/bar is just past Xtabi (which is a great place to hang out too, bring your snorkel).
Just across the street is a wonderful place, especially for breakfast, called Just Natural. There are just a few tables and they are set apart from each other in a garden with little paths between them - I think a huge plate of banana pancakes or ackee and saltfish was like $6. Great service too.
I have some trip reports online at http://www.maherconsulting.com/negril/
Have a great trip!

Lisa, on the nightlife question, are you talking about going out by yourself or as a couple or in a group?
I get tired of come-ons when I'm out in Negril alone. Though I know women who go out alone in JA a lot and do fine, the truth is many men will assume you want company if you go out solo (because many single women do go to Negril to hook up), and can be kind of a pain in the butt about it.
I haven't been bothered when with a group or with my husband.

Hey Linda,
Give us all the details. Planning wedding/honeymoon to Couples Negril in December. Right choice? What did you like best? What did you like least? Looking at the web site, it appears that if you want a true ocean view from your room you need a beach front suite on the top floor? Is this true? See any weddings on the beach? How were they? And just about any other information you'd like to share...lol.
Thanks,
David and Kim
