Jamaica-which area?

Trying to decide on which area would be best for us (Montego Bay or Negril)? We love the beach/ocean (we dive and snorkel) and would very much like to experience some of the local culture. However, we (wife & I) will only have 4 nts to spend on Jamaica so we're looking for someplace relatively close to Montego Bay / international airport. Currently
We've never stayed at an AI but are considering trying one on this trip. Any particular opinions/recommendations on Couples/Sandals (adults only)? It seems there are many to choose from.

Thanks,

I cannot answer the AI question....but Negril is only an hour drive from the MBJ airport and it has everything you are looking for (and more). The beach (called 7 mile, but more like 4-5) is great and has its own "local culture". You won't need to go far. Try one of the non AI places in Negril such as Idle Awhile or Coco La Palm....both places amongst the best Negril has to offer.

If you're thinking AI, look at The Caves in Negril, head-and-shoulders above any of the usual chain resorts
in quality, style and value.

If you can afford a few hundred more dollars, fly, don't drive, between MoBay & Negril. It's 12 minutes instead of an hour-plus. We've used TimAir and Jamaica Air Link and had excellent service from both places.
