Jamaica - which of these would you choose?

Hello,
Does anyone know of any main differences among the following choices in Negril?

*Sunset at the Palms (this is an AI which we have never done)
*Rockhouse
*Idle Awhile

All three seem quaint and cute in their own right.
We're in our 30's and are looking primarily for a place with nice accommodations and a relaxing atmosphere to hang out (sun/beach). We don't need a big night life...just a nice place to have cocktails at sunset, good food and any live music would be a bonus.

SATP is an AI, and is not on the beach but has a beach for guests to use across the street.

IA is a small boutique hotel on the beach, nice part of it.

Rockhouse is a boutique hotel on the cliffs, great water access but no sand.

SATP may be the only one with its own entertainment.

From your description, I would rank Idle Awhile #1 in fitting your needs, followed by SATP and Rockhouse in that order. IA is on the nicest stretch of Negril beach with ample bars/restaurants to relax at....some with live entertainment. As liza indicates, SATP is across the street from the beach, but does have a nice beach access with a beach bar. It looks like an amazing property and probably the one we would choose (or Point Village) if going AI. You'll love IA for sure....most guests do.

thanks to all everyone who replied.

If we chose IA -- would we have to find most meals off property? I'm reading that there are some restaurants (good ones) nearby so does that mean cab rides are minimal? Also, the question of safety comes up. We're both pretty well traveled and usually don't get skittish by a few comments but I've read some horrific things on this board so it sort of leaves me with more questions than anything.

Here's where we stand right now.

SATP: pros include the AI which would be handy for us as far as breakfasts and any lunches the days we hang out at the resort. We'd try dinner a few times but I'm guessing that we'll probably want to try some of the places recommended on this board. Another pro -- rooms look nice and new (no complaints about it being worn/dirty or smelly - both are pretty much deal breakers for us.)

IA - don't really know a whole lot except this seems to be highly recommended on the board and this would be the least expensive option. A good beach is also a bonus.

Rockhouse -- looks funky and neat. Great reviews for the most part -- but is it relaxing enough to hang out for a full week? The pool looks great and the cliff thing seems like it would be interesting to try or just watch. Not really sure I understand the diff between a villa and the premium villa.

So with all that said...see how I'm more confused than ever?

I am not quite sure what you mean about the “horrific” things you have read on this board. I haven’t read anything as it pertains to Jamaica or Negril, specifically. I did read, recently, about an incident on Turks & Caicos, that would qualify as “horrific”.

IA has a wonderful on site restaurant, beachfront, that is open most of the day with a full bar. There are many restaurants on the beach that won’t require a taxi that are recommended. Our last trip down we didn’t get into a cab once, other than a couple of runs to the grocery store in town. There is a little store right across from IA, as well, for water, soda, beer and liquor. We gave them quite a bit of business our last trip. We usually stay at Coco La Palm which is right next to IA.
