It depends on what you're looking for. The villas are up in the mountains around the resort and are private. They also have a plunge pool. The villas are very spacious. Your villa can either face the ocean or one of the beautiful Piton Mountains. Jalouise is nessled right between them. The resort is very hilly so there is a shuttle bus that runs from the villas to the rest of the resort. I tried walking up to the villas and it was tough!

The Sugarmill rooms on the other hand are right next to all of the resort facilities. It looks like a little hotel on the resort. I didn't stay in one so I can't describe the rooms.

Adding to what xXx says. Some of the Oceanview rooms were very close to the helicopter landing pad, so I would expect they could get some disturbance from the many flights that come and go.

We had a mountainview room, but could see the ocean quite easily from our plunge pool (possibly just by luck).

The sugarmill rooms are close to some of the hotel facilities, but certainly not all. They are just like normal hotel rooms, but without the plungepools.

As xXx says, walking to your room in the mountains can be done, but it is hard work. The shuttle service is very good, just make a call in your room and ask for a shuttle, then a few miuntes later one arrives to take you werever you want in thr resort.

That's true about the Sugarmill rooms. They are next to the Great House but they are also situated on a steep hill from the pool and beach. From there the spa and golf course are up yet another steep hill from the Sugarmill. The grounds are HUGE and calling the shuttle is recommended!

Our villa was also a mountain view villa and we saw the ocean from our plunge pool too. As for the helicopter landing pad, I don't ever remembering it being a disturbance unless you were right next to it. (Our villa sat somewhat above it)

Hope this helps...

My husband and I have booked a villa for next year. Does anyone have info about taking the helicopter to the resort. Recommend yes/no?

There are A LOT of curves and turns in the roads there and they just fit one car on many of the turns (which are also blind). The drivers beep to warn approaching cars. I never have any type of motion sickness and after the almost 2 hour ride from the north to Jalouise is was green. While the scenery is beautiful and you get a real sense of how the St. Lucians live...next time I go to St. Lucia I will opt for the helicopter. I can't even imagine how beautiful the island would look from up there.

We used the helicopter in March 02 and it was the best. 5 minutes from the southern airport to the hotel, and 5 more minutes until we had our keys in hand. St. Lucia Helicopters' staff was waiting for us as we got off the plane and whisked us thorugh customs. Well worth the $$$, and we took our kids on too. Roads in St. Lucia are awful. Many people at the resort drove from the airport but helicoptered back. Also stayed in a lower villa and didn't mind the helicopters coming and going. They don't fly early or late enough to wake you, and they didn't fly as often on weekdays as they did on weekends, for whatever its worth! We preferred the lower level villa for speed in getting around the resort, but the views are better up higher.

I think you will be happier in a villa that is higher up (I would recommend a villa with a room number in th 700's, 800's or 900's). No matter what room you are in at the Jalousie (even the closer in Sugar Mill Rooms), you will want a shuttle to come get you to take you to the beach, to your meals, for spa treatments, etc. Since shuttles are constantly circulating throughout the grounds, you will have one at your doorstep very quickly to take you where you want to go. The great features of the villas are that they are free standing so you don't share a wall with a person next door so it is more private. Additionally, the villas higher up have a lot of privacy and beautiful foliage. Finally, the villas each have individual plunge pools and the Sugar Mill Roms do not. The plunge pools are a great way to relax and enjoy your surroundings. I highly recommend the villas and the Jalousie in general. Expensive but worth it!
