Islands

I heard Turk & Caicos beaches are wonderful. The sand is cool and water is super aqua in color and warm. Does anyone have any other fabulous beach suggestions, with small inns right on the beach. Thanks.

They are wonderful.
Do you want suggestions on places in T&C, or other islands?

Palm Island in the Grenadines has fabulous, quiet cottages. Each cottage has a fully stocked refrigerator full of beer, wine, and pop that is re-stocked daily (all is complimentry.)No TV in the rooms, but there is a TV room. Comfortable king size beds, maid service twice a day. Because you are on a small 135 acre island, you don't share the beautiful sandy beach. It also has tropical gardens, a weekly BBQ, pool and spa. The boat brings you over from Union Island where you land via plane (1 mile away). In the winter months, no children under the age of 16 are allowed.

For islands with similar beaches and topography check out Barbuda or Anegada as well as many of the Bahamas Out-islands. All have what you are seeking.

Check out the Abaco's (Out Islands of the Bahamas). The beaches are gorgeous and nearly deserted. We had a nice stay in Treasure Cay and particularly liked being able to take ferries to other islands to explore for the day. Hope Town on Elbow Cay has a wonderful fishing village atmosphere with a picture perfect candy striped light house to welcome you in. Here's a web link to investigate the Out Islands: http://www.myoutislands.com/

One note of caution - they are best visited from April to October - temps can be cool during the mid-winter months.

We would like suggestions for places in T&C or other island. Thanks. It would be nice to fly non-stop to an island from Chicago, but, I think that may not be easy. Has anyone taken a ferry or some kind of water transportation to the Bahamas from Florida? Thanks for everyone's help.

Depending on your budget, check out:

for bargain on the beach, small inn try Sibonne. Right on the beach, includes small breakfast.

For a mid range, check out Villa Renaissanse, while more self catering, it's gorgeous and luxurious.

A little more than that But good if you get a special), check out Turks and Caicos Club-my highest recommendation for what you're looking for. It's a small boutique hotel (21 rooms), gorgeous grounds, on a quiet stretch of Grace Bay Beach (one of the best in the world), you can walk to off the beach snorkeling, and they trat you like family-feels like a home away from home.
