In the summer?

It is June and we are overdue for our beach vacation. I have never travelled to the Caribean or Florida in the summer. We have been warned away from certain beaches in Mexico because it is TOO HOT. Any suggestions for a beautiful beach vacation in June-July? Thanks, Diane

Diane, We have never been to Mexico but we travel to Florida 2-3 times a year. At least once every summer. We live in Michigan and really the weather in Florida is never any hotter or more humid than Michigan in the summer. The Gulf Coast of Florida (Tampa - Inidan Rocks Beach) is beautiful and not far from Orlando. Probably contacting a realtor in the area would be able to help if you are looking for a condo or beach house to rent for a week. We went to St. Lucia this past April and Aruba last Sept. We have never been to the Caribbean in the summer so I don't know how hot it is. I have seen other posts saying it is really hot and humid. Have a great time wherever you go.

If you are looking specifically for a beach vacation, I would choose either Florida or Aruba.

Florida and the Caribbean are just as hot as most parts of the states during the summer. The humidity is usually highest at night. What may seem to make it hotter is the fact that the sun is stronger since you are closer to the equator.

Aruba is a big travel destination even in summer and has 20+ M.P.H. tradewinds to keep it in the comfortable range. IMHO no matter where you go the heat index is going to be in the high 90's.

Florida would probably be a better bargain if money is a consideration. Either way I don't think that you can go wrong.

Diane, Florida is quite humid in Summer, expect late afternoon thundershowers almost daily. It's not much hotter than anywhere else in the summer months. Same weather in the Bahamas (Nassau, Abaco, Freeport, etc.). The big difference is crowds. All of Florida (especially the Disney area) seems crowded in summer. It is cheap season in the islands, less crowded and more families. It's all in what you want and what kind of package you can afford since airfare is more expensive past Florida. Aruba's summer is in the early spring (we were there in January and they told us that was their hottest time of year. The breezes kept it comfortable though. If you go stay on Palm Beach rather than closer to town. Good luck. Kathleen
Hi Jan. Thanks so much for the info!! Now our beach vacation has been pushed all the way to the end of August, so I decided that Aruba would be it for climate reasons. Now I am hearing from folks who have been there when it is actually TOO windy to be on the beach, and other's who advise a certain beach area ONLY to avoid the BIG "breezes". Can you advise about this? Diane

Diane, We were in Aruba last Sept. and loved it. There is plenty to do on Palm Beach. I don't know how much you want to spend on a hotel but the Hyatt is very nice. We stayed at the Wyndham and it had a very nice beach, pool and casino. They were remodeling the rooms floor by floor and the first room they put us in badly needed painting and new carpet. After we complained they put us in the honeymoon suite at no extra charge so we were happy with the Wyndham. It is hot but the tradewinds keep you cool and it is very dry and desert like. We did a jeep tour of the island and they have several boat tours that leave Palm Beach everyday. Have fun. Email me if you want more info on Florida or Aruba.

Having lived in both Florida and the
West Indies, I would have to say that Florida's summer heat and humidity is much more oppressive.
Usually the island breezes temper the climate, and it is quite bearable except at mid-day. I lived in the West Indies quite comfortably without A/C; I would never be without it in Florida. Of course, being on the windward side of the island helps! When vacationing in Aruba a few years ago, I stayed at Divi Aruba Beach and found it pleasant. Antigua is now my winter home so I'm partial to its beaches, but in summer chose carefully for the breezes.
