Honeymoon Recommendations

Allison, it depends a lot on your budget and tastes. Pretty much all of the resorts on both islands are quite laid-back; that is to say they are relaxed and informal though not liberal (no nudity, etc.), and they are small. Little in the way of opulence or luxury, which means that the resorts tend to blend in with the surroundings. Illegal to build a structure taller than a palm tree, for example. And you don't see rows of resorts; they tend to be somewhat isolated from one another.
All of that is a plus, imo. So assuming that is what you want (and a romantic setting it is!) and assuming you have the usual, nothing-is-too-good-for-Allison type of budget, then my first recommendation is Biras Creek on Virgin Gorda. Less expensive than Little Dix Bay, Peter Island Resort, and Guana Island and, imo, better for the small clientele, the unique environment on three bays, and the fine cuisine and architecture.
Next, and quite a ways downward in the price category, yet my favorite, is Frenchman's Cay on Tortola. You get your own 2 story villa or small home. Fully equipped, very roomy, and with a KILLER view of the islands. The restaurant is quite alfresco and the food is excellent. At the end of a dead-end road and very, very close to the ferry terminal that takes you direct to St. Thomas 40 min away for shopping and the treasures of the USVI. You can get a car in the package and on Tortola a car is a must as it gives you the opportunity to visit a different tiny bay every day.
I really don't have a third choice as those two are sooo good and the others don't compare. If I couldn't go to one or the other I'd go to Tahiti.
Have a tremendous life with your fiance and sweetheart!!!

Allison:

We spent our honeymoon, January 3,2001 to January 10th at Frenchman's CAy. LOVED IT. They have a good package deal including some meals (which are very good) and a jeep rental. Spent a day over at Virgin Gorda and walked through Little Dix, looks beautiful however it is a much larger resort and the area outside the resort is not so nice. Tortolla had great beached tucked away. Long Bay is Tortolla looked nicer as far as rooms however we eat there one night and thought Frenchman's dinner nad views were far better. Good luck!!

Allison, We spent our honeymoon at the Bitter End Yacht Club (Virgin Gorda)May, 2000. Check it out www.beyc.com -- it was perfect! The staff is very friendly, the accommodations are wonderful, food is great and there's tons to do -- sailing school, snorkle trips, adventure trips, wind surfing, etc.
Also, for what's its worth, we met a young couple who were staying at Biras Creek and they were bored and said they had to dress up for dinner!! (He had to wear a jacket and was not happy about it!)
Good luck!

Allison, A good review of many of the great resorts in the BVI is at www.scubamom.com. Frenchman's Cay is a great spot and the only thing it lacks is a "killer" beach. I think of Tortola as a "jeep about" island where you communte to a few other beaches. Long Bay, which someone else mentions, doesn't get many good reviews and based on my experiences there, I would not include it on any list of possible choices! Good luck on your picks and I am sure where ever you go, you will love the BVI's.

My husband and I honeymooned in Tortola,
we got the honeymoon package at Frenchman's Cay and were very happy. Good food, rooms were fine. Mostly, it was great to have a car and go to a different beach everyday. One note of caution about Frenchman's though: they lost power several times while we were there, which gave it a "rustic" feel, and there is no A/C. If those types of small inconveniences would bother you, you might want to look around more.
The highlights of our trip were the day sail on the Patouche II (snorkeling, great!!!) and a trip out to Anegada with FlyBVI. We had an otherworldly beach to ourselves and the 5th best lobster in the world for lunch!
Have a great time!

Hello- My husband and I went to Virgin Gorda for our honeymoon last August. We stayed at Biras Creek and had a wonderful time. The rooms are very private, you each have your own bicycle for the week, the food is the best- a different menu every night, absolutetly fabulous!!! The private beach, amazing with lots of toys and a great beach bar. You can use the private boston whalers to go anywhere- we had the kitchen pack us a picnic lunch(included in the week) and we found honeymoon beach!!!!! We snorkeled in absolute privacy.

The rooms were exceptional, very private, clean, and stylish. We even had a romantic outdoor shower!!!

Love to help!

Here's my vote, Allison, for Frenchman's Cay. Comments made so far here are correct. I can add that the bungalows or villas or whatever you want to call them are very roomy, have wonderful covered porches with wonderful views, and the location is very, very private. No through road, it's off by itself, and it probably has the best location for a seaside view of many islands that I have ever seen. Very friendly place and the managers really go out of their way for your benefit.
It's about a mile from the ferry to St. John and St. Thomas. Worth a day trip for the shopping on St. Thomas or a truck tour of the U.S. national park on St. John.
Bon voyage.

My wife and I have been to a number of resorts on both the USVI and BVI. We put Frenchman's and Biras Creek at the top of the list. Value-wise Frenchman's is the best. We thought the beach was fine even though it is manmade due, apparently, to hurricanes. What appealed about the beach was the breakwater that creates a sheltered area in which our young children could play and see fish rather than have to stay in the pool. The view from Frenchman's is fabulous and the privacy is tops.
Biras costs more, but offers what we've decided is the best restaurant in the Caribbean, very nice views and a terrificly scenic swim beach. We liked the idea that it's spread out so you have bicycles to get around. Might be a problem for older folks.
