Help with Anguilla water and beaches.
I'm doing research on Anguilla for a future trip and I'm having trouble with the different beaches. I'm looking for accommodations on the leeward side of the island. Would that be Meads Bay where Cap Jaluca is? That water looked calmer than some of the others I've looked at. If someone could steer me in the right direction please. Also, I'm looking at condos called Turle?? on Meads Bay if anyone knows anything about them?.
Thanks, Sandy

I'm not sure about leeward and such, but here's an Anguilla map website you can consult - http://www.caribbean-on-line.com/islands/ag/agmap.shtml

Sandy you are a bit confused - Cap Juluca (correct spelling) is on Maunday's Bay which faces in a southerly direction (it's near the western tip of the island); Meads Bay, on the other hand is on the opposite side of the island and faces in a northerly direction (although it too is on the western half of the island). The water is usually calm on both beaches.

To Laby, Thanks for the map website, that did help.
Sunnyboy, Yes, I am confused!! After looking at the map I see where both areas are, but still not sure. You say both are usually calm, but does time of year change that? Thinking of going in November. Are there areas (Shoal Bay) where the waters are calmer. I just want water where I can float on a raft. What beach do you think would be best for what I'm looking for? Thanks so much.

24 years since we stumbled across Anguilla, have been every year, mid December staying from as little as 2 weeks to as long as 7 weeks.
Have been on Meads when the sea has been calm and other times when it has been really rough.
Same goes for Shoal Bay East.
It is all dependant on where the wind is coming from, and who can predict the weather. November can be "iffy" as it is still in hurricane season.
Rendevouz Bay usually is calm, however sometimes it can be a bit windy up at the CuisinArt end.
The island is very small, and if one beach is too rough, just jump in the rental car and explore another beach.

OT is right. While the water is likely to be calmer at Maunday's Bay vs. Mead's Bay there's never any guarantee since so many things can affect the "wavyness" on either side of the island at any time. The beauty of Anguilla is that it has 35 different beaches. If one is too crowded for you or the water seems too rough simply drive to another one. It will only take you a few minutes to find a place that suits your particular desires.
