HELP w/ Little Dix !!! PLEASE

Hi
I am going to LDB in 3 weeks! I am nervous reading some of these posts about two things.

1. Access to other beaches/islands. I keep reading about "water taxis". Are these readily available? Do I have to pre-arrange for one? Also what time do they stop running? I would like to go to some nightlife/dinners at other islands but need to get back obviously.

2. Nightlife. I know that I am not going to South Beach but I am 30 years old and would like to have a little fun. I will be there for a week and do not want to read everynight. Anything you can offer would be helpful!!

Thank you

Also what is the best way around this island? Taxi or Jeep rental?

Little Dix was not very busy Jan '02, the beach bar was closed for renovations, and the steady north winds made the beach a little cool for our thin southern blood. The restaurant at the resort is good, but there are few options within reasonable distance to visit at night. Travel to Tortola at night is a bit dicey, and I would not recommend it. Day trips to Bitter End Yacht Club, Bira's Creek, etc are reasonable and fun to see, but not easily visited after dark. Travel on Gorda by land is practically impossible given the poor roads, and boat is preferred mode of travel. The Baths are a tried and true place to visit for snorkeling, but may be crowded. Good luck.

You will have a great time at LDB! The resort has the most beautifull beach you can imagine; they offer trips several times a day to some deserted beaches, i.e. Pond Bay, The Bath/Spring Bay and Savannah Bay (Savannah is my favourite). Public ferries run several times a day, some evenings even later in the evening. Check out for some detailled information on the ferry schedule at the BVI's official website www.bviwelcome.com. From there also click to the "Limin Times", which gives you informations about the night life on island.

Its been years...but in Spanish town, at The Bath & Turtle, I've caught free live reggae bands on their open air terrace.

You can't miss it...It's at Virgin Gorda Yacht harbor shopping center deck.

here is more on Spanish Town - south:

and...If the Baths are too busy...snorkel North... over to Spring Bay, for a more mellow beach experience...plus it's a great snorkel experience.

Also Check out the view from:

I have to disagree about the roads and driving. We drive every time we go (our 4th visit is in March). We rent a jeep for the week. The roads in Ireland & Costa Rica are worse. The Mine Shaft usually has a band, as well as the Bath and Turtle. There is a free ferry to the North sound destinations, I would imagine Bitter End is a bit livelier than Little Dix b/c of all the boaters that go. Again, as you get closer, check out the limin' times for who is playing where each night. We've always driving out for dinner each night - Chez Bamboo, Mine Shaft, Biras Creek, Flying Iguana are a few of our favorites. I hear Georgio's Table is good, we'll try that in March. Of course, by the time we've spent the day snorkling, climbing through boulders, having our sunset cocktail, and then going to dinner, we'll listen to the band, but we're not ones to stay out too late. Although there was the time we caught March Madness (hoops) at the Bath & Turtle with all the boaters...
