Help Needed in Barbados

Will be in Bridgetown (port stop on cruise) from 8 to 6 Thursday December 17.Would love to go to Harrison's Cave. Am afraid they will be sold out by the time I get a taxi.Does anyone know how many people they take on each tour there? Is it possible to make reservations? Does any one know of a reliable taxi co.? Really appreciate all help and responses

If there is a big tour going to Harrison's Cave, best to avoid the mob. You might be able to search taxi companies on the web and make an advance reservation, or with a tour operator who does very small groups in a van. Private taxi better. Very close to Harrison's Cave is Flower Forest, one of the most spectacular tropical forest/gardens anywhere. A guest once wrote in their visitors' book, "If I owned Paradise and Flower Forest, I would rent out Paradise and live in Flower Forest." Also, there is a beautifully maintained/restored plantation house in the general direction of the cave, called Francia Plantation. You can easily cover those in a few hours. If time, stop for a seaside lunch oceanfront at Coral Reef Club, the class act hotel on the island. There is also snorkeling from shore.

Harrison's Cave is currently closed and I don't think will be reopened soon. You might want to check on that.

You can book a private tour with Glory Tours - check them out at www.glorytours.org If you mention Lois Swanson you should get a discount.

Also there are lots or private taxis offering tours at about $20-$25 US per hour.

Check out my tips at: www.barbadostips.com
and you might find some helpful info there.

Sadly, the cave did indeed close again this summer and is not due to reopen until next year. Not sure when. But I'm fairly certain it won't be by mid-December.

Thank you all for your help.Guess Harrison cave will have to wait. Next option the Nidhe Israel museum and synagogue. How far is it from the dock? What is the museum like? Are there any other interesting museums on the Island?

Nothing's wrong in the cave as far as I know. They are doing more renovations and needed to close.

Anything in Bridgetown is close enough by taxi to the cruise ship docks. Two other good historical sites are outside of town, Francia Plantation and Sunbury Plantation. They give a look into sugar plantation life. The best nature sites are the wildlife preserve, Flower Forest, and Andromeda Gardens. Bridgetown is a bustling city. Get outside of town as well, and you'll see the beauty of a lovely island. You can check these out on www.barbados.org
