Help me decide! - Aruba, Bahamas, Jamaica, or ?

My buddy and I are in our mid-30's. We've got a week to spend away from our girlfriends. He's into Vegas and gambling, I'm into relaxing on a beautiful beach (or pool - but prefer a nice beach) by day, and we are both into partying up at night! We need to find an island/location that will give us a great time.

I'm considering Breezes Bahamas because it's next to the Crystal Palace casino. But I'm also reading lots of good things about Aruba. Don't know if there's gambling in Jamaica so that's iffy.

Anybody out there with some suggestions?

Thanks!

My suggestions are Aruba, Bahamas, and St. Maarten, each of which fits all your criteria. If you can think of any additional criteria maybe we can help narrow it down for you, perhaps what time of the year you're going, how much you plan to spend, AI vs. non AI, lush vs. arrid island atmosphere, etc.

There are a couple of hotels in Jamaica that claim to have "casinos," but it's really just a handful of slot machines. Forget it.

Aruba would be a better choice than the Bahamas if you're going during hurricane season (which starts soon), or if you're going during the coldest part of the winter (late Dec. to late Feb.). It's usually cheaper to fly to the Bahamas.

The entertainment at the big hotels in Aruba is a bit staid but there are some very hip clubs downtown - lots of Latin influence.

Speaking of which, San Juan would be another possibility, but the water's rough and the setting urban.

Sorry for leaving out some details: Here goes...

- Looking at going latter half of July

- Don't want to spend crazy $ like I've heard some people spend at Atlantis, etc. But we're not bargain hunters either. I'll spend a good buck for good accomodations, service, and food.

- Don't care between lush and arid. I would like a beach with powdery sand where the waters are clear, clean, and I can wade or take a short swim.

- Also don't mind being by the pool if there are some fun activities and good bartenders.

- I've heard of booze cruises and a booze bus (sp?) in Aruba. Both sound like fun. Would appreciate any feedback on those.

Hope this answers most questions. Thanks again for any suggestions!

Hands down, my recommendation would be The Atlantis. There is so much to see and do, you will meet lots of people, and have a trip to remember always.

July is during Hurricane, but July is early for the Bahamas.

Also it is off season, so you could get a great deal, airfare/hotel to Nassau.

There are a few places in the area to buy food for your room. Another option would be to stay at the Comfort Suites, and still have all the amenities of the Atlantis.

The casino there is huge and I have heard the slots are pretty good.

The beach close to the Atlantis Beach, Cabbage Beach was named one of the 10 most beautiful recently by the Travel Channel.

Have a great time and enjoy your trip.

Ive been to both Jamacia and Aruba. Jamacia doesn't really have casinos. I would recommend Aruba. The weather is perfect. It rarely rains so there isn't much humidity but is is hot. The beaches are white sand and the water is warm and calm. There are alot of casinos, bars and a few dance clubs on the island.

I am also planning a trip and am looking into aruba. The booze bus that you referred to is called kukkoo kanuku. I was able to find a website with info on it by using the search function. It looks like a blast! It is actually one of the main reasons for me that aruba has beat out the bahamas for vacation this year.

Eric -

I am a HUGE fan of Aruba! My husband and I have been there 3 times and are planning a visit for our 4th time in 3 years.

We went twice in the fall and once in July. In the fall, it is mostly for honeymooners and couples, but in July there are alot of mixed crowds and families.

Aruba has I think about 10 casinos. They do have a fun party bus that takes you to local bars. They also have a party cruise, but I can't remember the name of it. It has a waterslide in it, and from what I hear, it is supposed to be pretty fun!

They also have the typical things, snorkeling, scubadiving, jetskiing, parasailing, etc. You will also want to rent a jeep and tour the island. It is a challenge to get to the natural pool, but definitely worth it.

It is definitely a FUN place. For a couple of single guys, I think i'd recommend the Raddison Resort, because it is midway on the highrise and alot of activities going on around there.

Another place you may consider is Puerto Rico. They have alot of gambling and partying going on there. It is supposed to be a town that NEVER goes to sleep!

Let me know what you decide, im curious to find out.

Eric, I think maybe you would want to consider St. Maarten. It has Casinos, beaches,(lots of them) and different cultures (French and Dutch). Casinos are all over on the Dutch side. It seems to have more night life than Arbua. Many different little "towns". Rent a car, but be careful, the hilly and winding roads can be something.
Cost wise, it's cheaper than Auba. We went to St. Maarten last Feb. and had a blast. Went to Aruba the year before.

Second choice would be Aruba. This would normally be my first choice but with the critera you stated, I'm thinking you might like St. Maarten better.

Personally, I wouldn't even consider Jamaica (no casinos) and not a place to venture out and find night life. Bahamas, no, just too expensive and way over rated.

Good luck. If you have any questions, feel free to e-mail me.

Denise
