Both of those are true as they are not mutually exclusive. I did hear bad things and I have not done research yet and should do some Even Though I heard bad things =] Hope that helps.

Tabernash2 - Nice! Will check it out and read up on the info on your profile. Ty

blamona: Amazing post! Loved the positivity! You've been everywhere AND you traveled solo a lot. You're breakdown was super helpful. Ty! Looks like I have some decision making to do.Not the worst job.

Ah yes, malaria. I was just in Nicaragua and took precautions as well. Thank you for the heads up though.

Chiming in! I have been to four Hawaiian islands, and several Bahamas islands, and lots of Caribbean islands (although not T&C nor Anguilla). I know this is in disagreement with the Caribbean lovers (and I LOVE the Caribbean) I would go to the Big Island. So incredibly different from the other big 3, great scuba/snorkeling, you have the volcano and the amazing shorelines. Fantastic snorkeling right from the beach.

Re the Aloha spirit - we did not encounter alot of Aloha, especially compared with the warmth and love of the Bahamian people. I do agree with Blamona about slowing down and asking how are you before demanding an answer to your urgent questions. This is fun and takes a bit of patience, but we encountered so many friendly people along the way...have fun deciding!

Thank you Joan!

Yes, I am ALWAYS friendly, smiling and try to speak the language of the places I visit. In my experience, a smile & humility goes a long, long way. I've never had a bad experience traveling on my own, make friends every time and I do not see going to the Caribbean being any different. I'm still undecided but it appears, since I want to scuba I will not go to Anguilla this time around. T&C will have to wait too since I am trying to hit as many islands as possible on this trip and T&C is a tad out of the way of doing that.

It appears T&C will have to be a trip all by itself anyway with the great scuba there...

Thank you everyone for your input. It is Greatly appreciated.

Have you gone on your trip yet ? Never saw the date ? My two cents - been to Hawaii 20 plus times 70's thru 2010. Moved east and as close to the islands as I have gotten is St. Barths - people will booo this - and tell you how expensive it is - do your research and book early - it works out to same as island prices or cheaper. I would compare it to Maui in the 70s or Kauai laid back.
You can fall into a routine very easy - get up 6, drive get a baguette and coffee - look over see a beach you haven't stopped at before - park - right along side the road , go swim or snorkel and come back and your car is safe - left open with windows down, leave your villa doors open and feel safe, you can't find this anywhere else, it is paradise. I don't dive, I snorkel (some of the best I have found) but there is diving all over the island or boats to take you out to surrounding spots. Beaches are around every corner.
Jamaica - nice - a lot of issues there- too many. Been 4 times place is fished out saw zero under water life - its was weird.
St Maarten - lets call it a worn out Oahu
Anguilla - flat - can go on and on about different islands
St Barths is the only place I have found that has compares to the Hawaiian Islands , its the only one I have seriously looked at for a 2nd home. The food is well better than a local Hawaiian luau on a cloudless night - no , maybe not better but at least equal.
