happy moon villa

I've rented Happy Moon villa on st. john for may vacation in Feb. 2005. Does anyone have any comments on the property? Good or bad, just curious for some inside info from someone whose stayed there or seen it. I've stayed on St. John before but in a different villa.

Snowrooster did a trip report last year and loved it. Has to have killer views up on Ajax Peak.

Thanks for the input! I did a search and read the trip report which was great, however I'd still like more details if anyone has them to share. It helps with my daydreaming of what my vacation is going to be like.

My husband and I just got back from staying at Happy Moon. It was a wonderful week. Let me know what you want to know and I'll try to help.

Message: Some things I'm interested in are;
what are the road/driveway conditions to the villa, how would you rate the privacy,
did you need the AC or is the breeze enough,
any books or videos in house, is there cable, do all appliances work well.

Any details you care to add would be appreciated. Thanks for your input!

The road off Centerline is mostly paved, with short section dirt/rocks. The actual driveway is paved, steep, but fine with 4WD. There is good privacy there, tall hedges on back side of pool area. We did not use the AC in the main building at all, the breeze was wonderful. I did use the AC on low in the bedroom, but more for the noise (I'm addicted to fan) There was always a breeze. In Feb will be cooler too. Lots of sun, but they do have covered decks too. There are books there left by others,(we left some too), the TV does have cable and worked great while we were there, although we watched very little. There is a small stereo with CD player/cassette player. The appliances all worked fine and there is a grill outside too. Plus a washer/dryer that you can use. The view is outstanding. The kitchen is very well equipped. We really enjoyed the pool and just sitting on the deck, reading or doing nothing. Let me know if you want to know anything else.

Thank you for the details I really appreciate it! I can't think of anything else right now but I'm not going until Feb. So something will probably pop into my mind before then.
If I have more questions in the future can I still reach you through this board?

I thought of a few more things.....
Is the sofa a pull out or futon and should I bring salt, pepper, sugar or are there supplies in the villa? Also are there any resident critters there?
The place I stayed at last year had a few cats that kept us company

I don't know if the sofa is pullout or not. Yes, they had salt/pepper/spices/sugar there, also some coffee and tea bags. We saw a cat a couple of times but he/she wasn't very friendly. If you put out sugar water in the morning the birds are very friendly.

It's a plunge pool, not sure how deep, probably around 4 foot.

Hey, someone is renting Happy Moon!! I haven't reread my trip report so I apologize if I repeat but I'll try to stick to specifics I remember about the villa itself.

We loved Happy Moon. The view was ubelievable - you couldn't pay for anything more at a top notch hotel. The pool is little and not deep, but perfect for lounging around in. You don't need a/c (and we went in July) - the breeze is enough. The fridge was fully stocked w/all sorts of condiments and spices. There is a gate that protects the villa but I think it is more to keep animals (cows, goats) from wandering up the hill than anything. The owner actually told us not to worry about locking the doors while we were there/went out and we didn't. There is a dirt road up the hill to the villa. We rented a Jeep Liberty and had no trouble, but dh did the driving as 4wheeling is more his thing than mine! It was very private - the only voices we heard were that of workers building another villa on the hill. Personally I thought the location was perfect because you are kind of mid-island (not too far from Cruz Bay but not too far from the more remote parts of the island either). Let me know if you have any more questions. I'm jealous - we are saving frequent flyer miles to return to St John when our kids are old enough to snorkel and enjoy all it has to offer!!!
