I went to Swept Away in 1999 and loved it. I plan to get married this summer and would like to find a resort similar to Swept Away. I have looked at things in the Caribbean and am also considering Costa Rica and Belize. I have looked at Riviera Maya but it seems too commercial. I would rather go someplace fairly quiet with couples in 20s or 30s. I don't want to be around casinos as I have been to Atlantis and it really wasn't our thing. Thanks in advance! How about the Ocean Club on Paradise Island; not as commercialized as Atlantis. Nice and secluded with 35 acres of lush property. The wedding ceremony would take place in the Versailles Gardens on the 12th century Ausutinian Cloister inspired by Versailles and the Renaissance. Can't beat that. Robert

You could try Majahuitas, south of Puerto Vallarta. It is beautiful, romantic, secluded and the antithesis of commercial. It really is like being on your own private island. There is a picture tour on differentworld.com and I can also send you pictures from my and my husband's vacation there if you are interested.

Majahuitas looks gorgeous! But I think that I need a little more'stuff'like electricity and all that. I don't care anything about tvs or phones in the room but I would like to be able to turn the light on if needed! I liked Swept Away because it wasn't like a regular hotel...it was more like what I imagined a resort to be. I guess that I'm looking for the same thing. thank you though!

Oh, they have lights - it's just that everything is solar powered. At night, everything is lit by candles around the resort and they bring about 20 candles and put them around your room and light them, but you don't have to use them - you can use the solar powered lights in your room. Believe me, I am an amenities person, too. I loathe camping. This was solar-powered luxury. You've got lights, hot water - everything someone like you or I would need, but you're in the middle of the jungle and instead of destroying the jungle by putting in tons of power lines and things, they have well-placed solar panels in different areas that are more than enough to power your casita. I am not exaggerating - it really is not that rustic. But it's got that non-commercial idea that you mentioned. I cannot help but plug this place, I just loved it so much! If you have any questions, just ask. The staff there was at our beck and call - literally. At one point, two of the guys kayaked us out to a deserted beach for the entire day - we were the only ones there! And then they kayaked back at noon and brought us lunch on a linen tablecloth, left, then picked us back up in the evening.

I forgot - I have a friend who got married at Careyes in Costa Careyes, Mexico. She loved it and thought the resort was fabulous. The pictures were outstanding. It's more modern than Majahuitas - it has electrical outlets and everything, but still not as commercial as other resorts. There's a picture tour of Careyes on differentworld.com also.

I have been to many other resorts and nothing seems to compare to Swept Away, Sandles didnt come close, so go with the one you know your going to love..
