Great Exuma

I'm staying 2 miles from Georgetown, Great Exuma and am wondering if a rental car is needed. I won't be doing much, except going out for dinner and maybe going to a grocery store and back to the airport. How easy is it to get a cab/taxi on the island? Are the cabs/taxis reliable? What are the costs of a taxi? Any information would be helpful. Thanks.

cabs a re fortune, most beaches (do not miss Tropic of Cancer and Coco Plum) are stunning, but 90 minutes away.

Do not miss an excursion to Staniel Cay/Thunderball Ghrotto/swimming pigs, it's amazing! (only by boat)

I would rent a car for a few days. It would be a crime to go to Great exuma and not explore the beaches. Echo comments by blamona....Do Not miss Tropic or cancer beach.

I arranged a car through the owner of my rental and she gave me a bit of a discount. Still, it's about $70 per day, but well worth it to have total flexibility and moments of sheer serendipity. If you do a tour with most operators, they will pick you up in shuttle.
