Got back in July

My boyfriend and I stayed at St Jame's Club,Morgan bay. First off, some of the reviews on here are wrong. The hotel was beautiful and we were treated like royalty as soon as we arrived. We had a problem with our bed being lumpy and an hour later, they had replaced it with a new one. The staff were all very friendly. There were alot of restuarants. The nightlife stops alittle early, so bring your own fun! We were told all the resorts closed early. Bad thing is the rain, i would defin suggest not going during the summer months, one because of the rain and another because alot of the resorts are dead. The locals said things don't pick up till after hurricane season is over. There were plenty of things to do in the resort. This was not a 5 star resort, but it was close enough to it.

Thanks!

It rained early in the day and then again at night. The only really bad thing was that we only had one sunny day in the 8 days we were there. So even when it wasn't raining, we couldn't tan. Our resort did their best to keep us busy though. We went horseback riding on one of the days that weren't so nice and got massages. We also did the water sports when it didn't rain.

you are kidding! That's no fun not having any sun.. I've experienced cloudy days in St. Lucia before in winter, but not for 8 days like that. Glad you were able to have fun regardless.

Glad you had a good time despite your disappointment in the weather. Could you kindly provide more details regarding the food (variety, quality, type of restaurants), room (size, view, ameneties), and a description of the beach itself?

Rather than just saying that some of the reviews here are "wrong," please cite specific examples of your experience to refute others' claims. It will make for a better review and will provide future travelers to the St. James's Club accurate information.

Suzanne,
I've been to Barbados, the Dominican, Cuba, Mexico and St. Lucia. I think Barbados is my favourite island for the atmosphere, food and wonderful beaches/weather. Barbados is just so consistent for weather. Funny, as it's so close to St. Lucia. I have had great weather in St. Lucia - it's just that sometimes you do get the cloudy periods. Dominican - some of the best beaches I've ever seen, not much to do other than that and not great food. Cuba, exceptional beaches, not great food. Mexico - Mayan Riviera - was fabulous. I know I'm generalizing, so please take it as such Happy to provide more details on each.

St James's Club, Morgan Bay

I will first start out with the room. It was exactly how it looked in the pictures on the web, it was beautiful. We had a deluxe (i think, not sure, we were upgraded) room which gave us a view of the beach and of the main pool area. It also had a nice view of some of the resort. We had a nice balcony with a table and two chairs, it wasn't that big, but it was comfortable for just sitting out there and relaxing. The room had a safe, refrig, coffee maker, and cable tv. There was plenty of drawer and closet space, and we also had a little area with two comfy chairs and a table. We had a king size bed also. The bathroom was very nice, no jacuzi, but it was still nice. Overall the rooms were very well maintained, and it was not just our room, we had made friends with a few ppl who's rooms were the same.
The main pool was a nice size, with a kiddie area and also a volley ball net. The Adult pool was also very nice, but was located on the other side of the resort with the tennis courts and the other activies. We went when there wasn't alot of kids, so the main pool was fine for us. There was also a sand volley ball net, horse shoes and bacci ball (don't think i spelled that right) They also had a ping pong table set up in the area where the main bar was located. This is where they also held the nightly entertainment.

The entertainment was different every night. One night the staff put on a show, one night they had one of st lucia's popular bands come in, they had all diferent types of dancing, and also a fire show. It was great.

Ok now the food...number one, i am the wrong person to ask about any types of food, whereas I and my boyfriend are very very picky eaters. We do not eat seafood, nor will we have meat unless it is burned. But from what others said the food was great. There were three restaurants in the resort, and all day long they had an outdoor buffet with hamburgers, hotdogs, chicken and ribs. The more elegant restuarant Nicole's, there was a 35 dollor fee per person to eat there, and i will say it was defin worth it, we were treated like kinds and the food was great. One of the other restaurants was called the Palm Grill, this was a buffet style restaurant that had different food styles every day...we got there on Italian night, that had seafood night, chinese night, and a bunch others. This restaurant was also casual. The website www.wyndhamstlucia.com will list all the nights. We ate mostly every night at the tradewinds. Their menu changed every two days and you had to get more dressed up to eat there. That place was alot of fun. And every night there was someone waiting with a camera to take a snapshot of you and then enlarge it to any size u wanted. We picked up one of those too.

Now the bars....drinking all day and night for free was the best. And all premium liquors, and they were not cheap with it. There was a main bar, a juice bar and another bar that was attached to the palm grill. All were wonderful.

Onto the beach, the beach itself was nice, not the greatest of beaches, but it was very nice, there was also a little private beach to the side of it. I would defin suggest going to Pigeon point (i think that is the name) Everyone there raved about that beach. This resort also provided, paddle boats, catamaran's, and kayaks. And there were locals who came up to the beach to rent jet ski's.

Aside from the cloudy weather, we had a beautiful time and the best was not having to worry about carrying a wallet for anything. I wouldn't hesitate to go back there, and have also looked into staying

If anyone decides to choose this resort, please let me know, i wold like you to say hello to our favorite bartender for us! If you have any more questions, please feel free to ask or email me at [email protected]

Maybe the reviews weren't "wrong" they were just another perspective.

Oh so they weren't 'wrong.' When i first read the reviews, i thought the worst and we regretted booking the hotel. At least now some people can avoid some stress of being worried they made the wrong decision. I'm sure some still may not like it, everyone is entitled to their own opinion, i was just trying to be helpful.

suzanne26: The point is that everyone's reviews about any place on these boards are just opinions. So no one can say another person is "wrong" about a review. You can say you completely disagree with the reviews because your experience was great. Nobody can argue with you then.
We stayed at that resort a while ago. My thoughts on it are not anywhere near what yours are. It wasn't our worst stay but it wasn't close to any of our best stays. I would never dream to tell you you are "wrong". I'm actually glad you enjoyed it. People have different taste, that's all.
Not to speak for ejcrowe or carib_ian but I think that's the point they were making.

Thanks for the great details you added in your update. The more information that's out there, the more future travelers will be able to make informed decisions about their vacations. Glad you had a wonderful time despite some less than desirable weather during your vacation.

Thanks for taking the time to post, Suzanne. The more opinions that are posted the better idea people have about how a resort or island might suit his or her tastes.
I would add to some of the above comments by saying that my definition of "5 star" has changed a lot over the years. What I considered luxury, or over-the-top, and what I considered 'top dollar' for a room have all changed. (Unfortunately, my standards have gone up as well).
So it's useless information for me when someone says they consider a hotel to be 5 star. Comapred to what? Whose scale?
But detailed descriptions give me enough clues about the writer's perspective that I can usually tell where they're coming from.
