Good Hotel??

Am having some trouble deciding on a hotel for my stay in Aruba in August. My son (age 15) and I want a superior or deluxe room or suite with an ocean view and balcony and at least a refrigerator if not a kitchen.

We want to be right on the beach. We've considered the Aruba Grand and the Wyndham. Both get mixed reviews on this message board. Has anyone been to either one recently? Is the Wyndham really very windy on the beach and, if so, why is it windier than any other place? Any other suggestions? Has anyone booked with travel unlimited?
Thanks for any info.

The Wyndham does have a very windy beach - because of its angle, so they say. But the pool there is nicer than the Grand. The Wyndham has more restaurants and is generally busier than the Grand. I've stayed at both and prefer the Aruba Grand because of the availability of palapas.

Although it's across a small access road from the beach, LaCabana is very nice. There you will get a full kitchen. The beach and pool are both excellent. It caters to families.

Be sure to check out the trip reports on the boards at:

Have you looked into the Marriott properties. There is a hotel, Ocean club and Surf club time share units located together with great pools on the ocean. It is on palm beach with all of the activities. It is also located at the end of the strip where it seems less windy. The Wyndam is a nice hotel, but it juts out from the rest of the strip. That is why I think it is windier there. I have heard very nice comments on the hotel, but very negative on the wind factor.

Yes, I use Travel Unlimited all the time for all our travel needs and have never had a problem.

Aruba Grand may be too quiet for your son. The Wyndham juts out a bit and that may cause some of the windier conditions but I've never had a problem with the wind.

La Cabana may be a good choice as it is very much a family oriented resort with only drawback being you have to cross a small service road to get to the beach but that really isn't a problem.

You might want to look at the Costa Linda, a condo complex on a beautiful stretch of beach (just N of the Bucuti).

Personally I wouldn't choose La Cabana - too big (800 units) with, not surprisingly, a very crowded beach area.

All of Aruba is very windy , because it is flat it has the constant tradewinds. We stayed at The Renaissance Aruba Resort and Casino. The resort has its own private island but is not right on the beach, but a small boat takes you to the beach. It comes into the center of the hotel about every 20 minutes. It is also in the middle of a big mall and 24 hour Casino. We enjoyed it.
