I too saw this in the Sunday paper and it was the best news I have had in a while. Now I know some people will say, oh a golf course will spoil Anguilla, but for me it's great news. Husband an avid golfer so I have never gotten to one of my dream destinations - Cap Juluca. I did a google search after reading that and found an article from an island paper, I think, with a bit more detail. Says it will take four years to develop and I believe Greg Norman is doing it. Also says it will be in conjuntion with a Rosewood-managed resort . . .

yes, golf is coming to Anguilla. Flagship Luxuries bought the lovely Sonesta hotel a few months back and has started work on a golf course and luxury hotel. A beautiful hotel are being demolished and 100 people lost their jobs.

There were talks about a second golf course, Rosewood managed and the course designed by Jack Nichols, but this project was not approved by the Anguillian government.

OT,

You point out that 100 people will lose their jobs with the Sonesta closing. How many will get jobs when the luxury hotel and golf course are built? I'll bet it's more than 100. Plus, there will be a number of positions for less-skilled workers, which means much greater employment opportunities than exist now.
While there might be a difficult period in the interim, long term this sounds like a plus for the island.

Eileen, my wife and I are golfers and Anguilla wasn't on our 'visit' list before. It will be when the course opens.

What a waste of real estate.....

I see homes, schools, stores, anything but a golf course...

Golfers are the most tasteless rich people I have ever seen. And most of them suck at the sport (never break 100 forget about par). The rest cheat.

OT,
I stayed at the Sonesta a couple of years ago, and I am sorry to see the hotel is being demolished. (I had heard that earlier this year.)
What a shame that the beautiful tile work people were brought 1000's of miles to create will be destroyed.
I also can't help but think of all the wonderful employees - such as Lauren in the restaurant - who will lose/have lost their jobs.
What a testament to waste and excess that nothing of a relatively new large resort can be salvaged and utilized.
I can't imagine the cost for water and upkeep for putting a golf course on one of the most arid islands in the Caribbean.
It should be interesting to see how this all ends up.
