From Florida to the Bahamas?

From my area, there are exceptionally cheap tickets to Florida ($150), but the cheapest ticket I have been able to find to the Bahamas runs about $500. What airlines fly from Miami, Ft. Lauderdale, West Palm, on to the Bahamas? I assume I can just purchase one separately from my midwest to Florida ticket if I allow adequate connection time. Any guidance?

Pat,

Don't know where you are flying from, but Delta and Continental have direct flights from some cities, and from NYC for example the price is around $300 depending on when you are going and how far in advance you purchase the ticket.

Also you might check with Jet Blue, as they are now flying into Puerto Rico, another vacation idea.

Have a great time.

I live in Tampa area and the price to the Bahamas (I usually go to Eleuthera) tops out at $350, traveling midweek, with a stop in Miami - this is on USAir. Check their website, I've never paid more than that, but I do go off-season (May - Dec).

You can fly from Miami or Ft. Lauderdale to Bimini, Bahamas in a seaplane flown by Chalks Airlines; the one mentioned in Jimmy Buffet's book, "A Pirate Reaches 50," or whatever the title. Since you didn't indicate where in the Bahamas you wish to travel to, Bimini has some neat things to do...and deserted beaches. Robert
