For the regulars, STJ rebooked

Since I actually feel like I "know" some of you a bit, I thought I would give an update. We had to cancel our November STJ trip due to a very sad, terminal illness in the family. That sad and stressful time in our lives has ended and we are in need of some Caribbean therapy. We have rebooked STJ for March 25th and are looking forward to it.

BTW, for all of you Super bowl fans, we live just south 20-30min south of Detroit. Right now, it looks like we are getting less snow than predicted, but we just got back from dinner and it is a slushy, wet mess that hopefully won't freeze underneath. That is not so bad, it is the 40 mile wind gusts that are going to be a PIA. Nothing like some wintry weather to really make one want to be in the Caribbean.

I don't care about the Superbowl, an advantage of being a Brit

More details of the STJ trip please and I hope you have a wonderful time - you certainly deserve it

My sympathies, brenanq, for your loss. I'm so glad you will soon be getting that much needed vacation. We were on St. John last May and I'm certain you will love it. Did you decide on Gallow's Point? We are here in Detroit as well. Too bad the weather isn't cooperating, but everyone seems to be having a good time anyway. It's great to see people out and about in the city.

Thanks guys, I will definitely post a trip report upon return. We did book at Gallows Point, Harbor Loft. I think we will enjoy it. Have also booked New Horizons II and plan on the ferry to Jost for the day. This forum has been great during my planning stages, and I lurked more than anything gathering information. How nice to have toooo many restaurant choices!

Maggi, Where are you at in the Detroit area? We live in Lincoln Park.

Hi bren, as a fellow Detroiter (Troy), I'm with you on the Caribbean therapy plan right around this time of year! But we have to admit, we have had a pretty mild winter this season so far (knock wood.) I'll be looking forward to reading about your trip - be sure to write!

hi bren, in maine. odd weather here too. carib in march for me too. yippee!
just wanted to say you are going to love nh11 trip. definetly take the tour they offer at the baths. at monkey point watch for huge tarpon lurking around. if was very cool to be in the water with something my size! (def not scary fish!) take a ballcap, as the sun is intense on the water all day. there are ice cream bars at one the places just down the beach from the soggy dollar.
sorry for your need to "rebook" but glad you could make the time now. ENJOY

Just looked out the window, and guess what? Those pesky weatherforecasters were wrong again! Looks more like a couple of inches of slush.

maggie, You re right, we have been spared a bit, but lets not forget we still have February.

virginia, Where are you going in March? I am so looking forward to NH II, think it just might be the highlight of our trip if the weather cooperates.

I remember when you had to cancel your trip, and I'm both deeply sorry and also glad to hear that it is now behind you. I hope you know what I mean by that.

Hope that y'all have a wonderful trip to St John and I look forward to another trip report upon your return.

hi bren. on march 18 i am going to provo. staying in a small villa on grace bay beach. 2nd time in this house so i know what to expect and can't wait. we have some snorkeling directly in front of the house and the best on island is just a 15 min walk down the beach so i am jazzed about that! we can walk to several restaurants and bars too.

Brenandg: So glad you were able to rebook. You can't help but enjoy Gallows Point. It is very convenient to town, and the views are terrific. StJ is the perfect balm for stress. Try Hawksnest/Gibney beach on a calm day, it did Oppenheimer wonders. Imagine that level of stress?!!!

Thanks for the replies. We are very excited to go!

Virginia, hope you thoroughly enjoy youselves at Provo.

Christie, Are you planning the next vacation yet?

and tuxedocat, Thanks for the beach suggestions. The first day or so, I'm a little iffy on where to start. Sure do have more than enough restaurant suggestions from the numerous posts that I have read, its hard to narrow it down!

If you are going to JVD for a day trip, try to include Sandy Cay--if you snorkel, it's a great stop.

Brenda,
Yes..we are planning on going back to STJ sometime in the Spring or Summer.Without my mom this time.

The kids are going again so we will probably stay at the Westin.I chose STJ again because I feel like I know my way around the island now, which is good considering the kids will be with us.

Have a great trip..it's not too far away now.

Thanks Christie, only 42 more days!! It is pretty cold here now (low 30's daytime, Brrrr) Can't wait for some warm weather. Have fun planning your trip. We plan on checking out The Quiet Mon Pub that you mentioned.

ej, I definitely know what you meant by your statement. We are looking forward to some lighterhearted times. I will do a trip report when I get back.
