First Timer with Adult Children - Help Please!
I am taking my three adult children to Puerto Rico for a family vacation. Two sons love hiking and outdoor activities, daughter likes the beach, waterfalls etc... We are looking at El Yunque and doing the bioluminescent kayak tour. We would also like to check out the Bacardi facility and a coffee plantation. We are trying to determine the best location to stay - Northeast? We would like a good sunrise or sunset area. Any suggestions? Thank you all!

Northeast part of Puerto Rico, including San Juan, would be a convenient base for what you want to do. A lot depends on what you are looking for. Do you want a resort hotel or a smaller hotel or B & B type of accomodation? Do you want to be in the metropolitan area which provides you with a lot of dining options and proximity to Old San Juan or do you want a more scenic, less populated area? There are a lot of options in Puerto Rico.

I have also stayed in Isla Verde numerous times and agree with schmerl. That being said, I am always hesitant to recommend without knowing the poster's expectations of a "Caribbean" vacation. The San Juan area is not some people's idea of that idyllic beach vacation - especially with Isla Verde being so close to the airport.
