finally trip report from Provo

I was lucky enough to stay at Grace Bay Club (Villas), Palms and Somerset.
Grace Bay Club, great communication before going down there. Beautiful rooms, and excellent beach attendants. Some negatives: my daughter closed the safe without a code, and they never fixed it, so we had to carry all out money around. They don't tell you breakfast is included, not that you get sorbet and bottled water on the beach. You have to find out yourself. Other than that, you get a nice welcome feeling there, I would stay there again.
Palms, gorgeous gorgeous rooms, BUT problems again. Once again they did not tell us breakfast was included, nor about the bottled water on the beach. These things are minor, so I don't really count them to keep me away. BUT big airconditioner problem, on a hot hot night. Came back from dinner, it was 85 in the living area, almost 90 in bedroom!! They sent someone to fix it right away, but the guy said he would fix the bedroom the next day! (Where were we suppose to sleep?) I bugged front desk numerous times, each time I got the same answer, "we'll see how it goes, then I'll talk to manager about changing rooms." This went on from 8 pm until 10:30 pm. Then she excused herself by saying it would take that long to send a bellboy up to change rooms. (she never talked to a manager about it. ) We have a 4 year old, way past bedtime, and hubby had a mini-heat stroke from the sun all day. They finally fixed the AC in bedroom, and she said wait an hour to see if room cools down. It finally did by 11:30 pm. They never called us about it, never brought anything up, and mysteriously didn't ask how our our stay was at checkout. (I heard them ask everyone else) It's a shame the AC broke, because the rooms are beautiful. The Spa is out of this world. Food very expensive, and just okay. (Don't mind spending as long as you get what you paid for!) The service tries, but it's almost like reading a list and just going down it. I really didn't feel welcome, just one of the masses. (That's okay sometimes, just hard when there is a problem.)
Somerset is my new favorite in the Caribbean!!! Not only is it gorgeous, but they make you feel so welcome and comfortable. I cannot say enough good things about this place. I felt like family, and the rooms were gorgeous. Somerset is worth every penny. They are still Emailing me after I'm back in the States to make sure all went well. Somerset, to steal Simon from American Idol, has the "it" factor.
Dinners, the usual Hemmingways, Bay Bistro, Tiki Hut, and none dissapointed. We tried Grace's Cottage at Point Grace, and it's out of this world. It now ties with me with Coyoba's for the best meals anywhere.
We also rented a high clearance vehicle and spent the day at Malcolm's Beach. MB is always stunning. We had lunch at Amanyara, and I hate to say it, I didn't like it at all!!!!! I have to admit though, it's just not my type of food. This doesn't mean it's bad, just not my type of place. Lunch took 2 hours, and that was a little brutal for me, as it took away beach time for me. It's also ultra expensive.
Pictures for your enjoyment:

blamona,
I don't see any construction on Malcolm Road beach. Rumor was there was a big hotel going up there.
Whats the deal?

the "big hotel" is Amanyara, and it's already done.

LOVE the pics. My husband was making fun of me because I kept saying "oh my god" every time I'd look at your water pics. Lucky you indeed!

thanks for the pics and trip report, blamona. How fun to be able to stay at three different places to do a nice comparison! But don't you usually stay at a villa when you're down there? Or am I confusing you with someone else? I thought you went down for a month or two in the winter and stayed in a villa...maybe your own...ah, well, I can't recall. Sorry.

Anyway, thanks for sharing the pics, as the water really does look unreal--definitely falls into the "looks like it's been Photoshopped category."

ejcrowe: yopu didn't confuse me with someone. We go down and stay at our house in between tenants. Old ones moved out, new ones moved in, thought we'd try different places while we could.

Oh, it's always good to know that I'm not making things up about my fellow posters! Thanks for confirming that.
