eleuthera or green turtle cay
Hi,
I found nice houses for rent next easter on both islands. Originally we were planning on going to great guana and staying at the yellow house which was destroyed by hurricane. Wondering which island would be best for snorkeling, activities and least amount of damage from hurricane season. Thanks for all the help!!

By Easter, evidence of hurricane damage should be negligible to either location -- you'd only notice it if you'd been there before and saw the changes.
Either location is great, but different. Green Turtle Cay is small, you won't need a rental car as you would in Eleuthera, and you'll probably want to rent a boat to go island hopping and snorkeling. It's a somewhat more sociable destination than Eleuthera -- if only because Eleuthera is more spread out.
I personally would choose GTC, but I confess that my recommendations lean toward the places I've been more recently (GTC in 2002) or am heading to soon (Abaco again in 2005).

Just a note on Eleuthera, the Glass Window Bridge received some additional damage from the recent hurricanes and is on 'use at your own risk' status. This may influence your decision depending on where you are staying and what your planned activities are. It appears that everyone continues to use it just the same.

I have been to Eleuthera and more recently the Abacos. It seemed to me that GTC was on the outskirts (and some rental boats from the lower Abacos are not permitted to go "that far north"
. If I were choosing the Abacos, I'd go to Guana or Elbow Cay - there's nicer accommodations on guana, but Elbow is the hub of the Abacos, with more activity and restaurants than either Eleuthera or GTC or Guana. On Eleuthera, there is lots of off-the-beach snorkeling, whereas the Abacos are navigable by rental boat (a fun easy experience). Not sure about GTC snorkeling. Eleuthera is less touristy than all the others for sure, also a rental car is a must. You make your own fun!
