Ckikungunya virus
We are planning a trip to either Nevis or Cancun for the end of February. Anyone have any
information about the incidence of this mosquito borne virus in either area? Any cancelling plans based on this virus?
Thanks

The C. virus can be found on pretty much every Caribbean Destination. It reached it's "peak' in mid-2014 and fortunately by now has pretty much run it course and it was not a major event in either Nevis or Cancun Take normal mosquito prevention precautions and you should be just fine.

I wouldn't cancel based on this virus. The NYT ran a very good article on the virus a few months ago with basic information. I'm sure you can pull it up if you look. The mosquito that causes the virus bites during the day, so you need to use a very good repellent both day and night, and be especially vigilant at daybreak and dusk.

<<Cancun would be at the Ritz -Carlton- any thoughts on that property and location?>>
I stayed there once several years ago. It was very nice but I didn't like the location, the beach in front was largely eroded (this may no longer be true), and I thought the Victorian type motif was a little out of place. Oh and the pool area was a little barren (not very lush). I like Ritz Carltons a lot and have stayed at them in Maui, San Juan, Santiago and Berlin. I know that the one in Cancun gets a lot of rave reviews but I wouldn't stay there again - too many other good options in the Cancun area for much more reasonable prices.

We have recently stayed several times at LIVE AQUA, which is only a few blocks down ( toward the Westin) from The RITZ CARLTON.
The beach has been rebuilt, but sometimes there is a significant undertow, which means you have to use your hotel's pool or swim elsewhere on a safer part of beach.
I like the location because the beach is wider and quieter than other more congested parts of Cancun, and it's still only a short taxi or bus ride away from anything you'd want to do in town.
As mentioned, we haven't stayed at THE RITZ CARLTON, only had lunch there, but I do think there are other more appealing and less expensive options in Cancun.

BTW, just wanted to add that if I had a friend who owned a place in Nevis, I'd go there in a heartbeat over Cancun! Nevis is a special place, very lush, beautiful, and much less touristy than Cancun. If it didn't take us SO long to get there from the New York area, we'd go back often!

The beach is also very good by the Hyatt (think it has a different name now) and Krystal area, as well as by the Fiesta Americana Grand. And those hotels have more dining options within walking distance.
That being said, Cancun isn't my favorite place in the world.
