Caymen Islands with pre-teens
My husband and I want to take our 11 and 13 year old on vacation this September. Over and over again I have seen people rave about the Cayman Islands. Previously we were looking at Club Med and Beaches resorts, but I am hearing alot about the ?? 7 Mile Beach?? Do they have AI resorts around there and if so, can someone recommend one? We don't need fancy, just clean and comfortable!

I don't know about all inclusive on GC. We took our teens to the GC June 07. We stayed at the Marriott on the 7 mile beach. The hotel is very nice. The pool is small and the beach is narrow in front of the Marriott, but they have beach service (drinks and food) and chairs lined up. There are many condo options on GC and many people opt for that with kids. We used Marriott points.
The island has great snorkeling and some fun excursions. The water is the most beautiful I have seen and the sand is very white. The nightlife is slim to none which shouldn't matter to you. The dining is good but pricey. We enjoyed our trip and had a great time and would return.
(There are fast food options with a Wendys right down the street if you want to eat a simpler lunch). We had friends who's 15 year old son walked there every afternoon to get another lunch in him.

Grand Cayman has no all-inclusive resorts. I believe the Reef Resort (on the east end) started offering an all-inclusive plan, but it's on the opposite side of the island from 7-Mile Beach.
Grand Cayman isn't really known for being cheap, but if you rent a condo and cook some meals in (or have take-out from Chicken Chicken and the like), you can have a pretty well-priced vacation there and will spend no more than if you went to a Beaches resort).
But if you want to be around a lot of other kids and have organized activities, you'll have to stay at a resort, and those can be pricey. The Marriot there, though on the meager end of 7-Mile Beach, is a good value.

I would opt for a condo, you'll save more money that way with teens. The hotels can get pretty expensive with drinks, lunches, snacks and dinner. I usually stay at Plantana, it's close to the Westin to rent water sports and has a great pool, close to the public beach and you will feel comfortable enough in Cayman to let them wander around close by without supervision.
