Carribbean Islands or Mexico?

We are honeymooning in late September and realize it is hurricane season. We want to go to St. John's but think it is too risky and have been recommended the Mayan Riveria between Cancun and Playa Del Carmen. What should we do - carribbean islands or Mexico?

Monique,
Both are located in areas where it is "possible" to be hit by a hurricane in late September, but it has been a very long time since the Mexican Caribbean coast has been hit by a major one. (Does that mean they're overdue, or that it's less likely?)
I think it really depends on what you are looking for out of your honeymoon/vacation?
Both have great beaches and a lot to do or see, but you probably have a bigger variety of things to do staying near PDC than on St. John. (Ruins, Cozumel, shopping/partying in Cancun, etc.)

I am leaving for the Mayan Riveria in only 8 days If cost is a concern than you will have an easier time finding low prices in Mexico. I am going to the new Fiesta Grand, an AI, and plan to take in the ruins and such but booked an AI because all I really want to do is lay on the beach. Where to go really depends on you. Do you want to travel through the country and see as much as possible or just hang out?

Your best bet to avoid hurricanes is to go to the southern caribbean - Aruba or Curacao or Bonaire. These islands are out of the normal hurricane path.

The southern islands in the West Indies are pretty much out of the hurrican zone. If you dont want to worry about getting sick on the food and water sitck to the Caribbean.

Dan, I have gotten sick more times in the Caribbean than in Mexico.
Monique, JMM is right. If you want to go to the Caribbean in Sept., ABC's are the way to go.
However, your chances of getting hit by a hurricane the exact time you're there is slim. If you really want to go somewhere else at that time of the year, I wouldn't let the threat of hurricanes stop me. Just get insurance.
