Carnival STT
Has anyone been to Carnival in St. Thomas?
My husband surprised me this am by telling me that he found us a ferry from Vieques to STT for Carnival. Now I know it will be very busy, and know about the Mocko Jumbies, etc. But is there anything we should be sure to see, do?
Thanks

"It's Carnival, Baby!"
Food Fair is popular. Lots of booths selling local foods & people selling plants but the good plants are gone early since some people get there around 5:30 AM. It'll be crowded.
You might like the parades. There's a Children's Parade & an Adult Parade. Businesses will be closed on Main St. for these events & they're very popular. It'll be hot & good spots along the parade routes get snapped up early so wear your coolest duds. Oh, and the parades always start late! LOL
My advice is to skip J'Ouvert only because it can get a little frenzied. Not that anything really awful has happened that I can remember but it is one thing I'd stay away from. It starts in the wee hours of the AM & people dance & wave towels in the air behind floats with their favorite bands on them. Sort of like a Battle of the Bands. It won't be the same as the leader of Jam Band (one of the biggy bands), Nick Friday died this past year. This goes all along the waterfront & lasts until non-revellers are installed at work.
