Carenage Bay

Been there? What are the rooms like? What are the beaches like and how friendly is the native population?

I started posting messages about this resort over a year ago. No one ever answers anyone's questions--just lots of questions. Is this place real or a myth?? Has anyone ever actually stayed there? Never seen a posting from an actual guest.

Not been there but would love to go! Those pix look wonderful! My fishman has a relative who works as a manager there and each time I see him, he asks if I have my tickets yet! He says it is absolutely wonderful but he has only has "popped in" a couple of times when visiting family!

Carenage Bay is beautiful and amazing! We were there for 6 nights in April 2001. The rooms/ ground/ beaches, etc. are just magnificent and the staff are friendly.

The island, Canouan, doesn't offer much but the resort provides all the activities (disco, small casino, etc.) that one really doesn't need to leave the resort. It's also surrounded by many small islands that a quick one day sail is possible.

This resort is not as well known as it was recently acquired by Rosewood. AA began to service (limited flights though) this island in May 2001. It's so beautiful that I think many past visitors like to keep this secret to themselves.

We'd go back there again and again. Have fun.

Would love to hear more ... Harper's recently didn't think much of it! Loved the resort but found the service, as well as other things, really lacking and not up to Rosewood's standards!

We stayed 8 days 2 years ago. It was beautiful. There were only 25 other guests at the time, since it was less than a year old. As for the friendliness of the native population... we didn't leave the resort - everything you'd want is there. The staff was great and friendly. We posted a message a few weeks ago on another posting. Do a search using Carenage Bay as the key word. Otherwise e-mail me and I can go into greater detail.

Dear Travel Partner,
Re: Carenage Bay temporarily closes on May 7, 2002

I want you to be one of the first to know that Carenage Bay will temporarily close its doors on May 7, 2002.
The resort anticipates reopening in 2003 with its facilities and services restored to ultra-luxury five star
standards including the completion of the redesigned Championship 18-hole Jim Fazio Golf Course.

In view of our termination of Rosewood Hotels & Resorts as the operator of Carenage Bay, we find it imperative to cease operations, re-group, perform necessary maintenance, and reestablish an effective sales and marketing network. We will be taking the resort to a higher level in standard of facilities and services in keeping with the original vision for Carenage Bay.
We will miss not having your clients at Carenage Bay, but for your clients who want to return to Canouan or those that want to discover our island for the first time, I would like to recommend our sister resort Tamarind Beach Hotel. It is loaded with Caribbean charm and has a beautiful beachfront location. Many of our star Carenage Bay employees will be reassigned to Tamarind for wonderful warm and friendly service and you can still use some of the Carenage Bay facilities including tennis courts, Godahl Beach water sports. As soon
as our plans are finalized, I will be announcing when we will resume accepting reservations for 2003. ( For more information, follow this website for up-dates. )
I wish to take this opportunity to thank you for your support and we look forward to welcoming your clients
to Carenage Bay in the coming year.

Yours truly,
Bruce P. Hearn
Managing Director
