cap juluca for a solo traveller?

Hi all - I had decided to do One and Only Ocean Club on Paradise Island as a splurge, solo trip, but of course by the time I was ready to book it was completely sold out. I'm looking to go in November- pretty much open budget. My priorities are calm, beautiful beach, mostly adult, luxurious resort- night life not important. I looked at several resorts in the Bahamas "out islands", like Pink Sands, but they seem a little too small. I'm not looking to meet anyone - just want to lay on the sand with my book and a drink. Excellent beach service is also a priority. I've searched prior posts, but can't find if Cap Juluca would be comfortable for a solo traveller- it seems a little "honeymoony". Also looking at Four Seasons - Exuma. Will be flying out of either JFK or LaGuardia; everyone has been so helpful in the past, hoping they can help me now!

Difficult to say, but I have friends that goes to CJ in November and they call it "the Loveboat" due to all the honeymooners. I have also read about someone planning their big wedding at CJ sometime in November and you may be unlucky and end up in the middle of that.

Have you looked into CuisinArt or Malliouhana?

No direct flights from the US to Anguilla, you have the choice AA from San Juan or fly JFK to St. Maarten and transfer by boat or small plane to Anguilla.

I cannot speak for CJ (although I did have a great dinner there), but I did stay solo at Cuisinart and it was wonderful. I didn't see too many (any?) other solos, but the honeymoon factor was not too bad.

As long as you are comfortable eating alone, you should do fine. Just bring a book and enjoy.

CJ has all ages--lots of honeymooners in
June etc. If I traveled alone I would have no problem staying at the hotel. Yes, O.T, Pimms can be "The Loveboat"
as the flash bulbs pop, wow I have seen that, thus the name. LOL Yet you can totally relax with the beach on your door step, plus the lovely patios/terraces to just veg out! Of course Malli and Cusinart are good choices too! I must say I have lost my
good views of Cuisi since friends of mine stayed there in April. They complained to the manager that they had a foul sewer smell in their room. The hotel was full (btw lots of kids, a wedding etc,) so they could not move them. So they stayed in this smelly room 403 junior suite, the mangaer appeared 5 days later----they had to reseal the toilet!!!! Honestly I was amazed---not a dinner offer, not a drink, not a free night---not a thing!!!! So needless to say they will not go back!!!

Thanks all - I think I'm pretty much sure about Four Seasons Exuma for a short trip in Nov; both Cap Juluca and Cuisinart seem a little too quiet and remote (for now). I will be booking a longer trip to Ocean Club on Paradise Island in May; will post both trip reports asap-

Sabine: I have traveled the Caribbean alone, with my husband, and as a family. I've been to the 3 places you are considering and more.
CJ is more "honeymoon" than most. Cusinart is a little less than CJ, overall, Anguilla is in my opinion a more "honeymoon" or couples type of island. (I do take my whole family there, and love it, but it is mostly adult type destination)
Pink Sands is a boutique type hotel, individual small villas scattered around the property, so there is suclusion. the beach is gorgeous, the town is gorgeous, and there always seems to be a model shoot on the beach, or someone famous or jet set.
I don't remember beach service at either Anguilla or Harbour Island.
Exumas Four Seasons is a beautiful resort, but is more family oriented. (Although they do have an adult pool)
FS is pretty far removed from the "hub" of the island, and when we were there, beach service wasn't very good, however, in reading more current reviews, this seems to be improved.
All of the above have beach bars, so you don't have to walk to far for a drink. All have calm beautiful beaches.
November, unless it's Thanksgiving, should be pretty quiet anywhere.
Another one you may want to consider is Turks and Caicos, look into Parrot Cay, Turks and Caicos Club, and Point Grace. I don't know about beach service there personally, I usually stay at Sands or RWI beacuase I go with my family, but the beach is the calmest and gorgeous there too. (The Sands has beach service, but it's more kid frindly.)
All of your choices are excellent!!!

Thanks Blamona - I think I am going to avoid Anguilla (at least for now) while travelling alone. Of course, now that I've finally narrowed it down, a girlfriend said she might be able to go!! Back to the drawing board...
