For a first timer, superior or luxury class room ? First or second floor? Restaurant recommendations?

Could I ask once more here for the advice of those who have been to Cap Juluca on these questions ? Thanks.

Hi there...if that is your "real" e-mail address...I just sent you some information that I collected in trying to research Anguilla. (I collected it from people that have been there many, many times). Look for posts from "Howard".....he's been there like 13x. Also try the caribbean-online formum....there is more information there as well.

I believe all superior rooms are lower floor, usually the center room, not having the glass wall/solarium. It does have a lovely interior marble shower. Lower floor, easier beach access. Most luxury rooms have glass shower/solarium and double tub. Caps superior rooms are very nice, same patio, beachfront etc. It really is a personal choice, if you want upper or lower floor, also the hotel does not have many superior rooms, so check to see what is available. I answered your post on caribbean on line, now its up to you to be more specific. Happy to answer your questions. The hotel is a wonderful choice, so you cannot go wrong. <BR>As far as restaurants, the west end and the island has lots of choices and price ranges. The hotel as you know has 3 excellent places, all waterfront to dine. My other favorites are Mangos,<BR>Trattoria Tramonto, Covecastles, Straw Hat and Scilly Cay. <BR>

We've just returned from CJ, over there for Xmas. We had a junior suite on the lower floor in the middle. Last year we had a luxury room on the upper floor. Some of the lower floor luxury rooms have paths that lead directly from the room straight to the beach. Request one of these. We personally felt the luxury room was really nice and the junior suite not worth the extra cost and were disappointed with it. The bathroom in the luxury room had more space, but no double bath or solarium, and the shower in the suite splashed water all over the floor!<BR><BR>The restaurants once again were all excellent, our last night on Anguilla we went to Mangos and saw Liam Neeson, Robert de Niro, Robin Williams and Billy Crystal all having dinner. Kevin Bacon and his family were staying at the CJ. The restaurants on Anguilla are so good, we never once had a bad meal. Altamar is fantastic, along with Olivers, Mangos, Blanchards, Kemia. <BR>

anguillafan, what villa &amp; room did you stay in for both the Luxury and Junior rooms?<BR>How was the food at Cap?<BR>Did you do the snorkeling trip?

Curious: Our luxury room was villa7,room5 upstairs in the middle. Our suite was villa11, room2, downstairs in the middle.<BR><BR>We ate in Georges for lunch mostly, excellent food and good service. We went to Kemia once which we liked, good selection of food etc and good service, a little pricey though. Didn't do Pimms this year, we'd heard it was very expensive with small portions so didn't go! Tried most of the other restaurants on Anguilla and loved them all!

Forgot to mention that we didn't do the snorkelling trip ourselves, but spoke to people who did and they had a fab time! Perhaps next year for us!

I understand that Villa 11 Room 2 is a small junior suite and not representative of most of them (Penni or the other frequent visitors can probably confirm this). Having said that, however, I didn't think the junior suite we had (Villa 3 Room 4, on the left side upstairs) was worth the extra over a superior room either - the bathroom was massive but the room itself wasn't much bigger than the standard rooms. If we go again we'll save the $$$ for some of the restaurants. Altamer and Mangoes were my favourites but we didn't have a bad meal the whole time we were there.

Hi Grant-Yes the number 2 room in any villa is the downstairs room, and is a bit smaller, also not having the glass/solarium bathroom. I do not think anyone could be disappointed in the superior room, it is nicer than most caribbean hotel rooms, also a very nice size! Actually some of the luxury rooms are the same size, but with bigger bathrooms. (villas 14 and up). <BR>The hotel is a pleasure, but the Anguilla experience is the best!

Message to Penny: just a thank you for your posts re CJ on Fodors, I've found them all very helpful and informative.<BR><BR>Personally now having done both luxury room and junior suite, don't feel the suite is worth the extra cost, the luxury room was superb and more than adequate. We didn't use the sofas in the suite and the double bath took too long to fill! I understand the superior rooms don't have baths, only showers, but are still nice rooms, although I haven't seen one myself. Anguilla is such a nice island, we didn't spend too much time indoors, so the extra cost wasn't really justified.<BR>

Just returned from Cap and had a Jr. Suite with outdoor solarium. We loved it and felt it was worth the extra $$$. We were in villa 12 room 1. The view of St. Martin was picture perfect, even being on the ground floor and the instant access to the beach was wonderful. We loved the Jr. Suite and have re-booked for the same room for next year. The double tub with the glass wall is delightful and we would leave the outdoor shower door open. At night it was beautiful to look out at the stars from your bathtub. All the rooms are great at Cap and all have that beautiful view as I think it is a matter of preference. No matter what room you are in everyone has that great service. If you can afford the extra $$ I say go for the Jr. Suite, but only if it is an end Jr. Suite, the middle suites (#2) are just not worth the extra money. The reason we wanted the Jr. Ste is for that amazing indoor/outdoor bathing area, which we loved, so for us we got what we paid for.
