Caneel Blows Away Cap Julucca

I recently visted both these resorts, and contrary to what some others think, I greatly preferred Caneel. Caneel has an elegant, old world feel to, while Cap J is more nouveau something.

Boris,

Whats the point of your post? Did Cap Julucca piss you off or something? Bottom line is it's simply a matter of opinion. Contrary to your post, most of the posts I've seem to think it's the other way around, and cap blows away Caneel.

Frankly I see no reason to try and "slam' certain resorts for whatever issues you may have. If you'd like to offer a simple comparison of the two, stating your preference, and the reasons why, it might be a bit more interesting. Your post sounds like you are simply trying to stir the pot...

Yeah - all this talk about marble bathrooms equalling luxury. I just think its tacky.

Look guys, why do some people prefer Mercedes (luxury/refinement/not flashy), some people Porsche (not luxurious/performance oriented/flashier) and some Chrysler??

They make, and sell, a lot of each.
Because different people value different things.

So who is 'more correct'?

The answer?
No one, of course.

Boris, would you jeer your neighbor for driving a new Chrysler convertible because it doesn't suit your taste if you lean toward Lexus?

I hope not.
(But I won't assume anything).

Boris was just stating his opinion based on experience...and isn't that what this board is for? Why is it okay for people to tout Cap and slam Caneel? He wasn't being rude. Leave it alone.

The automobile analogy is a good one, IMHO. I would welcome any thoughts, as comparison, between Cap Jaluca and Jamaica Inn.

I have stayed at CJ and am considering JI.

Mercedes vs Porsche ?

THANKS !

To 'geez': Boris' comment about "nouveau something" was derogatory.
And that's fine...in that this is a discussion of opinions.

But most of the people complaining about Caneel (your example) aren't just bashing it for the sake of being nasty. Most of the complaints have been objective and directed toward specific issues.

There's a big difference between bashing for bashing's sake, and objective criticism.

isn't Mercedes a Ford now and Porche just a fancy Volxwagon? Ferrari, Lamborghini, Lotus, Aston - those are the upscale luxury cars.

All right, before all the *boys* start to show off their knowledge of whose automobile is better, is there anyone who has stayed at both Cap Jaluca and Jamaica Inn who could give a comparison of these properties ?

Thanks !

No, no, no, no......Mercedes is still Mercedes (but they've taken on Chrysler as a minority partner).

Jaguar is now owned by Ford.

Lamborghini is now owned by Volkswagen.

Ferrari is independent.

Porsche is independent.

Just a suggestion to repost with a new thread. The question is buried here. Have always heard very nice things about the JI's property and suites.
Cars, nice analogy. I prefer and drive stick!
Now, I have stayed at CJ many times, and Caneel about 4 times. Caneel does have an old elegance, lovely beaches,
terrific snorkeling. I have stayed on Scott, and Cottage 7. I will stay there again! Not a big fan of their restaurants, the main pavillion is too busy for my taste, so we skip it! Never had a good meal at Equator! Since a continential breakfast served in your room is not included, we usually get a breakfast picnic hamper delivered in the room. In high season the Turtle Bay Estate is open for breakfast, lunch and dinner. Nice spot, and we do enjoy our stroll for our morning egg white omlettes etc.
The beach terrace was our favortie lunch spot, but they had stopped service up there, drinks only, or plastic tray take out from the lower area. Again a very very busy spot, day trippers, boaters, slowwwww service!
Cruz Bay is a happy dappy town. Love
Ascolare, Paradisio, Cafe Wahoo, Morgans Mango!
St. John is a beautful hilly island
that is almost all national park!
My big complaint on Caneel is that Rosewood could and should do a better job! Service could be much much better, and cannot compare to CJ! Little Dix, their sister property on Virgin Gorda, has outstanding service.

Now CJ has the marble baths etc, I do like the West Indian style rooms and regular showers at Caneel, heck with the big tubs at CJ, I just love the shower, all inclosed in glass, and the water pressure is the best of any hotel I have every stayed at!
Anguilla has a wealth of reataurants,
and Caneel has nothing like the water setting of Georges, and Pimms. Snorkeling not good, but again a wonderful beach!
