IF YOU ARE LOOKING FOR BEAUTIFUL WATER IT IS IN CANCUN, BUT THE ATMOSPHERE AND DEVELOPEMENT REMINDED ME OF DAYTON BEACH IN FLORIDA. NO FEELINGS OF BEING OUT OF THE COUNTRY. STAYED AT THE MOON PALACE. WAS VERY LUXUROUS BUT NOT ON THE STRIP OF CANCUN BEACH AREA.IT IS CLOSER TO THE AIRPORT AND ON THE OCEAN, BUT WATER AND BEACH LEAVE MUCH TO BE DESIRED. THE PALACE RESORTS WOULD ALLOW YOU TO USE OTHER FACILITIES OF THEIR'S IN CANCUN BY TAKING A TRANSPORT THERE(ABOUT 20-25 MINS RIDE.)

Watch the shrimp--I got very sick and was sick for days. One of my coworkers had the same problem with shellfish. Other than that we have never had any other major problems. Personally if you like luxury try the Hotel Villa Del Sol in Zihuatenejo Mexico or another hotel in Ixtapa nearby. Cancun is great for nightlife and the ruins are interesting. Le Meridien in Cancun has very good spa services. Have you considered the Dominican Republic--Paradisus Punta Cana is a beautiful property--hard to beat that beach!

I felt exactly the way you did before I went to Cancun. We only stay at the Marriott, the JW Marriot, and the Ritz Carlton. We do drink bottled water, and we have never gotten sick. We really like the beach here. The water is so blue with waves. Staying at these places, you can stay away from the party crowd. There are some very good resturents in Cancun. My favorite is La Brasis at the Camino Real. Really, I think Cancun is worth it. We have been every year for the past 5 years. It is very Amercianized. From Atlanta, it is only an 1 1/2 hour flight, and in the winter it is a perfect get away from the cold. There are many deals out there.
