Calling all Bucuti Fans!!
Hi everyone...we are seriously considering Aruba and the Bucuti in March.I have heard sooooooo many wonderful things about this place!Anyone care to elaborate??We just want a great beach, with great service, with no kids(on this trip anyway..lol).The new Tara Suites will be ready..should we give them a try?I am a little concerned about the Spring Break issue..any thoughts?? Thanks in advance!

Well, if what you want is a great beach, great service and no or few kids, you can't go wrong with the Bucuti! We are about to go back there for the 5th time, so I think we count as fans... We were there last year and although the hotel was fully booked, you couldn't tell, there was so much room on the beach! As for the 'kids' issue I should add that there was in fact one family with 2 or 3 children staying there at the time, but these children were exceptionally quiet and we never heard them and rarely saw them. (The mother and grandmother who were with them looked very bitchy - I didn't envy those kids but it did make for peace and quiet...) Still, children are certainly discouraged at the Bucuti, it says so very clearly on their website. I replied to a post on another forum from one misguided couple who plan to take their 2-year old there in June - tried to warn them off but am not sure if they got the message...
The Tara suites sound wonderful, we're going too soon to try them this time, but may do so next year.
Be warned though, that the 'standard' rooms are NOT five-star luxury, they are fairly basic. Bucuti's charms are its location on a huge beach, its friendly staff, nice garden and peace and quiet.
Finally, if you plan or have booked to stay there I would advise to reconfirm your stay with the Bucuti shortly in advance by e-mail or phone, since they occasionally have a problem with overbooking.
Hope this answers all your questions - if you have any more just ask!

Thanks so much for your informative reply...I like the sound of your post!I am curious about how far away Bucuti is from the high-rise section...is this where most of the dining is located??Is a car necessary or taxi?I know Aruba is known for great food...a fact Im looking forward to.I just dont want to be too far out of the loop on nightlife and dining. Thanks in advance!

It's about 3 miles from the Bucuti to the high-rises - two years ago a taxi to the closest high-rise hotel (Wyndham) was $8 plus tip. We rented a car for 3 days to explore the island. You can also take a bus to Palm Beach or into town - they're cheap and safe.
Restaurants are all over: some by the high-rises, some near Bucuti, some in between, some in town (Oranjestad), some a bit inland from Palm Beach, some elsewhere on the island.
There's a casino near the Bucuti, some at Palm Beach, and some in town.
