Bucuti in Aruba
How is the water at Bucuti? Stayed at Divi Tamarijn once and the water was so full of stones and coral hunkss you had to watch where you stepped every minute. Does anyone know if you can rent one of those nice big foam type floats you can take in the ocean?
Last but not least - how strong is the surf there - like rated from "You need help to stay on your feet as the waves really try to knock you down" to "calm enough for a 5 year old". Any other input appreciated also.

We just returned from the Bucuti 2 days ago and the beach was nothing short of fabulous. One of the nicest beaches I've seen- and I've travelled extensively. The water is gorgeous, warm, turquoise and not a rock in sight!
The surf was a little bit rough, probably due to the residual effects of the hurricane, but was still nice enough to splash around in.
As for renting a floatie, check with the gals at the activities desk. They are very helpful and can probably get you what you need.
If you stay at the Bucuti, consider the Tara Suites. They are well appointed and we walked out the door and voila! The beach is RIGHT THERE! Have a blast, you'll love the Bucuti!

The Bucuti has a great beach. We stayed there in 2000. We read that you won't find many waves, but found the opposite to be true. We think they were referring to Palm Beach where the high rises are located. In our opinion, Eagle Beach where the Bucuti is located, is far superior to Palm Beach. The beach is wider, doesn't feel as crowded and is adult oriented. You won't find children programs at the Bucuti. The hotel is geared towards adults. Topless sunbathing is allowed on this beach. We did not see this at Palm Beach. This didn't bother us, but some people may not be comfortable with it.

We just returned yesterday from 8 wonderful days at Bucuti. Minus the two days of residuals from Hurricane Ivan, the beach is calm & gentle. With the Hurricane near it was choppier & not suited for a 5-year old. That will subside though. The sand is powder-soft, especially in & near the ocean.
I am sure you are aware Bucuti is adult-oriented. We did see a handful of children throughout the trip & they were all quiet & no one seemed bothered. You cannot rent floaties at Bucuti, maybe at Costa Linda next door though.
