Breezes POP Look Elsewhere

Spent Dec1-15th 2005 at Breezes POP. Anyone thinking about vacationing here should reconsider. One of the dirtest resort I've stayed at in the 15 years I have vacationed in the Carribean. Very little effort is made to clean. It is apparent when you find cig butts left by the dozens from the previous day under the pool lounges and you have to get the attention of the maintainence staff to take care of it . Than they are looking for a tip for basic cleaniness. And the 24 hr beach bar and snack bar! Forget it one of the filthest resturants I've ever experienced. Many morning I would go to the beach resturant around 8am for a coffee and a place to sit and watch the ocean and many a morning I would not even stop because the tables and floors were filthy from the previous nights guest. I'm talking about real dirty b-b-q sauce stains, dirty dishes, full ash tray all left on the tables and not a suggestion of an effort to clean them by the staff. They were all too busy talking amongst themselves to be bothered. The service and selection at the buffet in a word was nonexistent. You had to wave your arms to get the attention of the waiters and on many ocassions I saw fed up guest pouring their own coffees. The buffet was small and very limited in choices and after two weeks it was very tiring. The nightly entertainment was the worst I've ever seen and believe me my wife has made me sit through some very desparate resort shows. Even she was ready to go many a nights. And the clientel of the resort is large "gay" The evening shows and activities around the pool many times was directed towards this segment of guest. There were evening shows where a man would be laying on the stage floor with another man over him performing very explicit sex acts. This was also around the pool where the activities staff would minic one man bending over while another came up from behind and again performed a very explicit gay sex act. I could go on about the wicked mildew smell from many of the rooms we saw after refusing to accept an ocean front villa we had booked because of an extremely foul smell and no a/c. A room that my wife said she would never spend two weeks in. About all the injuries that we saw relating to the surf. And the indifference of the staff to those injured. But this is getting lengthy. All I can say is that I know it's what you make of a vacation that usually determines whether or not you have a good time, but this is one resort that one matter how much effort I made to make the most of my vacation Breezes surprised me with another disappointment. LOOK ELSEWHERE

"The evening shows and activities around the pool many times was directed towards this segment of guest."

What?! Pardon me, but I didn't know that gay people are "segments of guests". How awful that they offended you. And please tell me what is an "explicit gay sex act"? I did't know that gay people have sex differently than their straight counterparts. Jerks comes in all sizes and sexual orientations but to be as blatant as you're being...

Look, if you don't like adults being immature and acting like depraved kids on spring break then please say so but do so without having to bring a particular kind of people into it would you? When I witness bad behavior from anyone I would never think to tell someone it was black, chinese, white or latino people acting that way...just people. You had a bad time, I'm sorry but from now on leave race, creed or orientation out of the picture. It doesn't belong.

First, what does POP stand for?

Second, Breezes is kind of known as a lower end resort chain. Not that that's any excuse for the lack of cleanliness you experienced.

Did you do any research prior to committing 2 weeks of precious vacation time and money to that booking? A quick look on Trip Advisor website probably could have clued you in to the quality of that place right off.

If I arrived at a property such as that I would have cancelled on the spot and found another more suitable property to spend my vacation.

Sorry you had such a bad experience. Hope you'll learn to research and choose more carefully in the future.

Everytime I see this post I wrack my brain trying to figure out what POP stands for. It's driving me crazy, not that I would ever consider staying at a Breezes even whether it was located in POP or on the moon.

I'm thinking maybe this is Puerto Plata. Yes, that's my final answer.

Right Kath, POP means "point of purchase" to me...can't quite figure out what OP means with that acronym.

Where the heck is Breezes POP? Is that Puerto Plata, DR?

The OP probably could have said the stuff about gay people better. Maybe, the entertainment was geared towards the gay population at the exclusion of heterosexual guests. I think that is a fair complaint if the shows are really racey.

First Kath is right POP stands for Puerto Plata as any one who has ever looked at an airport departure or arrival screen can attest to. And yes I did review the various sites prior to booking this vacation even with Trip Advisor. As far as Breezes being a low end resort chain can I suggest you look at their other properties and you will find them to be very upscale. And finally I certain didn't mean to offend Pork Chop. A "segment" and "explicit" can be used without a prejudice towards the gay population. Not one review I read and believe me I read plenty gave any indication as to the large number of gays at this resort. If they had I would have looked elsewhere.
