Best Caribbean experience in Puerto Rico

Tentatively planning a trip to PR in February with my husband. Having trouble deciding where to stay - we will only have 4 nights. I have considered Luquillo, but we really would like to be on a Caribbean beach with the clear, calmer water. Not sure we want to go to Vieques due to the time and we would like to see more of PR. Also considered Ponce and Rincon. I realize they are both quite a drive from San Juan. We would like to snorkel, and otherwise see some sights and relax with good food & drinks and a beautiful beach. Any thoughts would be appreciated!

I am not really familiar with the Caribbean side of Puerto Rico but you might want to take a look at the Copamarina Resort in Guanica, which is 90 miles from San Juan. Friends have stayed there a liked it.

Check out El Conquistador Hotel located in Fajardo which is a coastal town at the tip of of the eastern shore. They own an island off the coast called Palomino which is surrounded by a small reef and the waters are very clear and snorkel-able. plus the island has all kinds of ameneties and a water shuttle going back and forth to the hotel every hour. Loved my stay there. http://www.elconresort.com/

As for calm waters, just depends on when you're there and what the weather is like and temperature wise it'll be around 80 degrees.

I am partial to Rincon & the 'surfer vibe' that the town has - http://rincon-pr.com/ http://www.rincon.org/ http://www.surfrinconpr.com/

BTW - Once you 'escape' OSJ, driving in PR is easy & fairly quick.
