Bel Air Plantation, Grenada

I am considering booking a holiday at Bel Air Plantation. Can anyone who has stayed there give some input?

I spent a week at Bel Air early this spring.
The cottages are gorgeous- every amenity
is provided for. The staff, including owner/manager Susan Fisher and front office manager Sandra Martin are outstanding.
Even a cell phone is provided at no cost
for one's convenience. No need to eat out
every night - the restaurant is excellent.
Chef happy to accommodate every special request. Location is away from main busy
(and overrun) tourist areas. However, property is not on the beach, but there is a lovely infinity pool I did not rent a car; but given the distance to town/other restaurants and sites, I believe it is a very good idea. I had a thoroughly delightful visit, and suggest you contact property directly with any questions. This was one of the most relaxing Caribbean vacations I have had, and I have been to many of the "upscale"
resorts. Bel Air is more low key, but thorougly charming.

We recently stayed at Bel Air Plantation and just loved it. I agree with Boonie that the villas are gorgeous and contain every amenity. Beautifully appointed yet very comfortable. Each is an individual unit so they are very private.

The setting is very special. All the villas are on a hillside so you have lovely views of the bay and sea. The gardens, which are throughout the resort, are extensive and filled with tropical plants and flowers.

Restaurant is superb. We ate there most evenings. As Boonie said the chef is very accommodating and will prepare special dishes for you. He visited our table most nights to let us know of any special dishes for the evening.

While the resort is not beach front, it is waterfront and has a small, pretty beach at one end of the property. They have kyacks and snorkel equipment for guest use. We snorkeled from the beach along a cliffside and also toured the bay in the kyack - great fun. We walked to next bay on a couple of days which has a lovely huge beach with a beachside restaurant (about a 15 min. walk).

The staff is wonderful and very friendly and arranged some activities for us (snorkeling, touring and sailing).

We thorougly enjoyed our stay and are planning to go back.

Thank you both for your replies. I spoke with Sandra at Bel Air Plantation and have now confirmed a reservation for June. I must say that if the service at the resort is anything like the service I received while making the reservation we are in for a great holiday! Very pleasant and most helpful.

We will post a report when we return. Just counting the days now.

We are all set with our trip with the exception of a car rental. I am a bit nervous about driving on the left having never done it before. Any advice from those of you who have experience with this?

How readily you adapt to driving on the left may be an individual matter; you won't know until you try. Most people adjust fairly readily. However, driving on Grenada has other concerns if you are not familiar with similar locations. Ecxept for the Grand Anse -Saline area, roads are narrow and crooked, with few directional signs, and generally no shoulders, so you have to be very careful. On the other hand, speeds are low, even if they don't seem to be. Do not try to go anywhere from Bel Air at night unless you have made the trip in daylight so you know the way. With that being said, I do recommens a car, as there is a lot to see on Grenada. A tour will get you to most of it, but it is nice to be able to get around at your own whim.
