Barbados Hotel Help

My husband and I are going to PSV for our 20th anniversary and planning to stay in Barbados for one night on the front end of the trip and two nights on the end. Does anyone have suggestions as to what hotel/resort we should look at that is close to the point of departure for Union Island and not a bank-breaker (less than $150USD per night)??? Would like to be within walking distance to shopping and restaurants - not all inclusive. Thanks.

Don't know where the departure point is to Union island and you didn't say when you were going but you might look into Coral Sands (www.coralsandsresort.com) We stayed there last March and it is very nice. Studio suites with kitchen facilities. About a five min walk to grocery stores and 10-15 min walk to St Lawrence Gap. The off season rate is $140/night. If you decide to stay there suggest second or third floor for the best view.

We are going in June - know absolutely nothing about Barbados and would appreciate any recommendations. It is a long trip from Texas and we thought the stay overs in Barbados would enhance the trip. Thank you for anything you can tell me.

I've not done your itinerary myself (yet), but you might want to check out Scubamom's reviews of her stopovers in Barbados on her way to PSV and other Grenadines locations. Her website is www.scubamom.com --just click on the tropical flower icon to get to the reviews. She offers lots of photos and nice commentary. (She also travels from Texas, so she knows quite well just how tired you'll be on arrival.)

I think you might like the Peach and Quiet Hotel. Here is the web address www.peachandquiet.com.

Curiousx - That looks like a wonderful place but would we need a car to get to shopping and restaurants? Like I said, I know nothing about Barbados yet but we want to be centrally located. Thanks for the suggestion. I have the web site bookmarked!!!

Hi,
for a centrally located hotel I second Coral Sands; it is on a fantastic beach, walking distance to The Gap and very easy to get transport from. You might also like Accra Beach Hotel as well.

P&Q is a 10-15 minute taxi ride from St. Lawrence Gap which is the centre of nightlife and restaurants. Barbados taxis are cheap and reliable. P&Q is about 20 minutes from Bridgetown which is the commercial and shopping centre.

Personally I hate shopping generally and in Bridgetown particularly (crowded and hot), and tend to save it for the duty-free stores at the airport. There are probably others on this board who can give you better advice, and you might want to post this question separately.
