Back from delayed T&C trip
Well after a two day delay - thanks to American Airlines canceling our flight - we made it the Ocean Club. We had a great time doing a lot of nothing. Beach, water, walking, eating and drinking sums up the vacation.
Best meals were Hemingway's, Coco Bistro and Gecko Grill. My husband also loved Iguana, but the rest of us found the food a little too spicy overall. We had a good meal at Bay Bistro, but made the mistake of going to Fairways on their Asian night. We loved the atmosphere, and the service was great, but the food was just okay. We stopped by Danny Buoys on St. Patrick's day and they had a great party going on, but we didn't eat there (they had roasted a whole pig).
We have stayed at OCW in the past, and we really like certain things about both resorts. We loved the walk east of OC with no buildings but the little Coral House. The color of the water along there is truly indescribable. The OC rooms could really use some sprucing up, although we were perfectly happy and comfortable in them. We would go back to either resort, and we would have a hard time deciding which one to choose.
And as far as AA goes - they are crediting our accounts with 10,000 miles each - kind of what we expected.

hi gin, so glad you finally got to fly. sounds like you had a great time despite the shortened stay. i have wanted to try fairways, but we always opt for someplace oceanfront. i am curious about the 'coral house' down the beach from ocw. what is this? did you take any pictures that you can post? wondering if you found the water to be a bit cool - as we did last march.

I remember your 2 day delay. Seems like 10,000 miles is not the best compensation. I for one, probably won't use them for Provo anymore. Probably too late now, but I would contacted Obmibusin (spelling?) at Conde Nast Traveller magazine to see if they could do anything for you. To me, loosing 2 days of Provo is huge.
Sorry you missed out 2 days, but glad you had a good trip anyway.
Did you do any excursions, or have any pictures to post? Weather was good for you?

Fortunately my husband and I were able to extend our stay by two days, so we didn't miss any days. Kudos to Ocean Club for being so understanding - no charge for the days that my sister had to cancel.
The Coral House is down the beach (going East)from the original Ocean Club. It is a private house so we could only look at it from the beach. I don't have any pictures, but I'll check to see if my niece got any pictures of it, and I'll ask her to post them here.
The weather was great up until our last two days when we had mostly cloudy skys. We did have one stormy night, and outside eating was not an option. We were lucky we still got a table at Hemingway's that night.
I think we called the water temp. "refreshing". It wasn't bathwater, but you could definitely stay in it for a while before getting a chill.
I forgot to mention that we ate at the Big Bamboo (used to be 21 North I think). We were pleasantly surprised - jerk chicken, peppered shrimp, wonderful bread with mango butter and reasonable prices. The service was also very good.

Wow.. sorry to hear about your 2 day delay! I'm using AA for my trip to Provo come May. I hope eveything goes as planned. We haven't had bad luck with using them on other trips - so I hope this one holds true to form.
Why was there a 2 day delay?? What happened?

VegasM - the afternoon before our early morning flight the next day, AA called to let me know that our flight was cancelled due to mechanical problems. Due to the fact that it was the beginning of Spring break for a lot of people, they were not able to get us out until two days later. We have been using AA to the Caribbean for decades, and this is the first time this has happened - and hopefully the last. Had we been flying at a different time of year, I like to think that they would have been able to get us on another flight, so no matter what, I'm sure you'll be fine in May. Have a great trip - I'm just back but still jealous!

Gin, so glad you finally got to Provo. I remember reading your two-day delay postings -- how frustrating.
For me, 10k miles credit is far below a fair compensation for missing two days of your vacation.
I would be relentless with AA. Don't give up. And it will take time and effort to negotiate a fair deal. I would not accept 10K!!
Try Blamona's suggestion as well.
Glad you had a great trip!
