help with martinique please

Our famly is using delta miles to go to Martinique in May. Actually, we are interested in going to Dominica but our miles get us to Martinique. What is the easiest way to get to Dominica? We arrive in FDF at 3:00 pm on May 26. We could spend a few days in Martinique although the hotel reviews on tripadvisor look horrible. Any suggestions for lodging? We would prefer the moderate price range. Thankyou.

Don't shortchange Martinique. It is a phhysically beautiful island with a wide range of sightseeing, hotels, beaches. Take a look at Anse Caritan Beach Hotel in St. Anne, on a nice beach, and close to Salines Beach, the nicest on the island.

Thankyou. I am trying to find favorable hotel reviews from people who have stayed in them recently? We speak very, very little french. We have took weeks total, and are more interested in hiking than beaches, so that is why we are heading to Dominica.

Actually Mart. is a very beautiful island. We had a cruise stop there and saw the rainforest. Its totally beautiful. There is also a town referred to as the Carribeans Pompei. It was buried by a volcanic eruption but later excavated. I don't recall the name and we did not get a chance to see it but it is one of the highlights to see there. Also we toured the De Paz distillery and got some excellent aged rum for a decent price.

From Martinique to Dominica (Roseau), you can go by Express des Iles, a catamaran service.

The town that was buried in the volcanic ash is St Pierre which is a charming town, bit like a better off version of Soufriere in St Lucia. I think St Pierre or environs would be a wonderful place to stay, especially if the beach is not the most important thing.
