We will be staying at Atlantis in October for a week. We have eaten at the Market Place and at the Hall of Waters there and they were both very good. Can anyone recommend any other restaurant choices and an idea of cost? It is going to be pretty pricy for a week there. Also - is it possible to easily get transportation/walk to any other restaurants outside the resort? If so - I would love other recommendations. We don't need "cheap" dining, I just don't want to drop $200 every night. A few nights is fine though.

At Atlantis we love Villa D'Este and the Bahamiam Club. Neither are cheap. You can walk across the street to Anthony's Caribbean Grille. At the Harbor Club next door is a restaurant--I forget the name--maybe the Blue Marlin?? Down the street at the Hurricane Hole Shopping Center is the News Stand where you can get good and inexpensive breakfast. There is also a supermarket there where you can get snacks and sodas to keep in your room.
If you don't want to walk to these places there are always taxis out front to take you wherever you want to go or you can take the ferry into town.

Haven't been in couple years, but Dune over at the Ocean Club is good and very nice setting. On top of the cliff and there is an outside bar for drinks before / after. However, I do beleive it was not cheap.

Ate at the Green Parrott the last time we were there. It is located in the marina by Hurricane Hole. Great burgers and wraps there. They also have a happy hour.

Blue Lagoon at Club Land'or is a favorite of mine. By the time you arrive, the new marina village should be complete with Cafe Martinique being rebuilt. If it lives up to it's past reputation, it would be my pick.

There's plenty of terrific dining in Nassau, just an $8 cab trip away.
Montegue Gardens, Cafe Matisse, the Poop Deck, Lucianos of Chicago, and Friday Soon Come will all satisfy your palate without destoying your pocketbook.

For meals that provide value consider Murray's Deli (at least I think that's what it's called) located just past the casino in the direction of the beach towers. They have good breakfasts (cheaper than Marketplace and no buffet) and you can also buy a takeaway lunch that is already prepared.

I second the recommendation for Anthony's restaurant - great food, reasonable prices. We ate there for two nights - the snapper is excellent. Our dinners were never over $70 and that includes drinks, appetizers and main meals. We also had a very good meal at the Italian restaurant located in the Hurricane Hole Plaza although the cost is not what I consider cheap(about $150 for two of us including a bottle of wine). The Poop Deck (the one located near the marina - left as you go over the bridge to Nassau downtown) has good food as well. We splurged here - I had fresh catch of the day which put the bill at around $90 for the two of us.

We walked to both Anthony's and the Italian restaurant but opted for a cab to take us to Poop Deck. I can't recall the cost but it was reasonable - less than $10 I believe.

You can walk from Atlantis to the Poop Deck, about 25 minutes. One of our favorite sunset-time activities. The walk makes the meal even better.

We enjoyed Anthony's during our recent visit but we didn't find it to be that much less expensive. We paid $6 each for the cab ride into downtown where the restaurant choices are obviously more extensive.

You must try out these inexpensive, but great eating places: Arawak Cay's cracked conch and fries, smuddered pork chops; neat Bahamian village west of Nassau. Easy to get to with a jitney or taxi, or even walk from downtown Nassau. Many Bahamian restaurants are there. Try Conch Fritters right across from the British Colonial Hotel on West Bay Street; they're mac & cheese is to die for. Other places are Iguana Cafe, Green Shutters (centuries old; it's a historic site of British influence)on by Parliament Square, The Poop Deck is a must; just an eight mile to the left off the Paradise Island Bridge, easy walk from Atlantis. But, please don't eat the Grouper. Crocodiles has great hamburgers. Try Dominoes Pizza, which can be delivered to your room: hint- try the conch pizza...unbelievable. Cafe Johnny Canoes has good meals for inexpensive to moderate prices. Hit the Hurricane Hole, about a two minute walk from Atlantis, to the left of the PI Bridge. This little shopping center has a deli with great sandwiches for inexpensive prices. It's called the News Cafe. I also fill my suitcase up with dried soup packet, to heat up with H2O in the coffee maker in my room, if I get a binge. etc. Also, Anthony's Caribbean Grille is next to the Atlantis, great food: hint- their happy hour offers FREE hot snack food. My wife and I had some drinks and snacked at the heated trays by the bar before dinner. They had conch fritters and a half dozen other items. Trouble is, we were too full for dinner!! Now, that's one reason I married my wife; I love chea..or...uh...frugal women!! Hint: by the PI Bridge, walk to the left, down a path (I believe it's cemented now) to the right of the guard hut, and you'll find the ferry boat which takes you to downtown Nassau by the cruise ship dock. Many inexpensive restaurants there, including McDonalds and Dunkin' Donut. The Winn Dixie grocery store is there, too, offering inexpensive food items and snack foods for your room (May be closed down). There's a Sbarro's in downtown Nassau on Bay Street, too, which is very good. Get a copy of Tourist News when you touch down; it lists inexpensive restaurants and has discount coupons. Robert

Green Shutters has closed and reopened in the past, hope they do it again. I love that place.

I hope Green Shutters opens again...Darn!! On many a hot day, I'd go to the rustic, antique wooden bar and have a freezing cold Kahlik or any English or Irish stout I wanted. Great atmosphere and great English cooking; especially the old English pot pies were to die for. Should we recommend the conch salad made in the stall at Potter's Cay? Robert

Yes, of course we should recommend Potters Cay. They serve up the freshest conch salad in Nassau.
For those who are interested, Pottes Cay is located under the eastern bridge on the Nassau side. It's the dock/Cay where the fishing boats and mailboats come in. There's a couple dozen fruit stands and fish shanty's serving the freshest conch salad, red snapper, conch frittes and cold Kalik. Very rustic surroundings, shared tables, and usually a good game of dominoes or checkers to enjoy.
It's a great place to check out the "real" bahamian life. Not for everyone, but if you want to a new experience, check out Potter's Cay.
