The island is Eleuthera in the Bahamas. Harbor Island is in the northern part of the 115-mile long, 1 mile wide island, and is a small island off of the main island of Eleuthera. Access is by ferry. Exploring the entire island several times, you'll find it is one big beach. There are various "pink" sand beaches, which are actually pinkish-white in color. We stayed around the South Palmetto Point area. I've been there several times conducting reef surveys. Beautiful beaches and snorkeling. Robert

Years ago, when I stayed at the Marriott Castle Harbour, I was delighted to see such pink sand - and it was pink. However, at our recent stay the sand at Southhampton Princess was nowhere near the hue of pink that Castle Harbour offered. It was a little more pink at Aqua Sands though. When I arrived home I did a 'pink sand' comparison as I also bring home a bottle of sand from my beach destinations - location must determine how much pink is in the sand. The beach at Castle Harbour was wide open compared to the beach at SHP which was surrounded by large rocks. I guess this determines how much coral comes in?? Thats just my opinion.

But IMO ejcrowe is the 'most correct'. The simple fact that people argue about whether or not the sands of these beaches are pinkish or faintly pink is an indication that the public relations and marketing people are pumping up the descriptions beyond reality. Sure you can see some pink flecks among the individual grains of sand. But the overall color is not an in-your-face pink. It's relatively subtle, most impressive with a pink sunset to enhance.

I have visited Harbour Island many times and stay at The Pink Sands Resort. The beaches are some of the most beautiful in the world and they are pink. It is a great place to visit as it has yet to be over commercialized. Get it while it is hot and not over run.
Good Luck.
