I recommend buying travel insurance for hurricanes and then go and enjoy yourselves with that peace of mind. I've been to both Antigua and Barbados in August and have been lucky both times. We had afternoon showers that lasted a couple of hours, and one full blown storm that raged all night and made it very cozy in our cottage. As long as it's not life-threatening, I find storms at sea to be wonderfully dramatic to watch. I'm fascinated by the roiling clouds on the horizon.
The rest of the time it was beautfiful and sunny.

Although the hurricane season is from July thru November, the hurricanes in this area typically hit during the month of September. However, we've had them as late as November, as well.

I think that August (at least the beginning half) is still relatively early in the season and therefore pretty safe with regards to storms...at least in my experience of living in this area. Travel insurance might still be a good idea, though, if you are really concerned.

I spent a week in Anguilla last August 3-10, and the weather was perfect. I, too was worried about "huricane season," so I bought travel insurance for peace of mind. It was absolutely gorgeous every day we were there.Enjoy your trip!

I agree with Statia, August is early in the hurricane season and you should be OK, especially the first half of the month. We can only take our Summer holiday in August because of work commitments and I have sailed the islands many times at that time.

August is a great time to go to Anguilla. The first week of August is their carnival which is lots of fun. Parades, boat races, jump ups etc. Go to www.festival.ai for pictures of last years carnival and well as lots of other Anguilla info. We just overnighted in Puerto rico on our way to Barbados. Recommend looking into Numero Uno in Ocean Beach. Their restaurant Pamelas is excellent. Tables with umbrellas and candles right in the sand. Very romantic. Numero Uno doesn't have a web site yet but if you do a search you will find info. If you need more Anguilla info feel free to E-mail [email protected]
