Anniversary vacation help!
Message: My husband and I will be married for 10 years the end of July. We got married young and didn't take a honeymoon, so we are hoping to FINALLY do that this year. Does anyone have any suggestions on non-trendy, warm, not-to-touristy, relaxing beach destinations? This will be our first major trip without our kids, so a more quiet, couple-oriented location is best. I know this is pushing it, but we do have a slight budget too. Anyone out there with any miracle ideas? haha- THANKS!!

Check out the couples resorts in jamaica. They are couples only, all-inclusive and I have read nothing but great things about them. They also have a secret rendevous special where you pay like $150 pp per night and you don't know which 3 resorts you will be staying at until a week before you leave. That may cut down on costs. Good luck in choosing and congrats on your tenth!

What price range are you talking about, including hotel and air? Where would you be flying from??
Couples resorts are trendy and touristy, I would also avoid Jamaica. Some people love it some do not, but if this is your first major trip, well you can do better. July is low season so you can get a good deal without having to do an AI. Please give us your budget it will be a great help

When I read your post I thought of Peter Island resort www.peterisland.com. I don't know your budget, but htey have a special for 1 week - ocean view 2 people, all meals (3) and afternoon tea, full use of all water equiptment and ferry service to tortola for $3929.00 - I think that's an incredible deal. It's also not trendy and definately not touristy. When I went to BVI I didn't wear shoes with heels
Check out the website, I have never been to Peter Island, but I have been to Virgin Gorda on vacation and I must say it is soooo beautiful, lush and the beaches are geogeous. The BVI's are also extremely safe, we stayed at Biras Creek and we didn't have a room key! you will love it..

Young Island was recommended on this site as an alternative to very pricey, yet the website makes it look lovely. Rooms in July can go as low as $185, according to their brochure! If you do a search on "Young Island" it will probably bring up that post with all the suggestions. Also, luxurylink.com has many bargains, but you have to call ahead to the resort to make sure there is availability on the dates you want to bid - and to be sure that listing actually is a "deal." Please post back to let us know what you decide, and after the trip, to give us your review. Have fun!

I am not sure of your definition of "trendy" or "touristy", but the rest of the description of what you are hoping to find actually does fit Couples resorts in Jamaica and the budget part will fit, too, as compared to other resorts.
We found couples Swept Away the perfect romantic honeymoon get away. There were lots of watersports to entertain in the day if we wanted or just a fabulous beach if we wanted down time. Didn't matter to anyone around what we did or which way we went. The setting was lush, tropical and very well kept, the food and service were impeccable. Highly romantic and as quiet as we wanted (which was rather). Best trip I had since St John years ago.
There were touristy excursions offered if you wanted to, but you had to take the initiative to participate or you wouldn't even know they were offered. We could have stayed in our room all week and noone would have known.
The gorgeous beach and friendly people are what calls us back there. Sitting on a beautiful beach, a waitress comes around and offers cold fruit on skewers or cold hand towels to cool off....exceptional! You should at least explore this option....
Whatever you choose, have a great trip just for the two of you!
