anguilla or St lucia
Hi -
We are trying to determine whether to take some time to visit Anguilla or St. Lucia. Both look beautiful in the pictures. We are looking for beautiful beaches, no bugs, good food, relaxation and top notch service and accomodations. On Anguilla we were looking at either the Cuisinart or Cap Juluca. On St Lucia we were looking at Anse Chastanet or Ladera. Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated. We are sooo confused!!!

These are 2 very different islands, so it depends on what you are looking for.
Anguilla has my heart, it is not lush, but much easier to get around than St. Lucia. The beaches have white powder soft sand, blue green water, long stretches of many beaches, relatively easy to explore the whole island. I selected Anguilla because of all these reasons, plus the big factor of many great spots to dine. Cap Juluca and CuisinArt are fine hotels, both have great service. I am partial to CJ
but CuisinArt is building up its repeat guests. As far as St. Lucia, I have only been there once. It is a lush island, but very hard to get around the windy roads. As I am a beach person,
I really missed the white white sand
and turquoise water. I cannot comment
on the hotels as we stayed at Jalousie,
but none of the hotels will place you directly on the sand, after all it is the Pitons.

Well said Penny,I myself love St. Lucia. Anse Chastanet will give you a private beach in a cove and a truly unique experience. The owners are really into original artwork, and cuisine and it is a really one -of- a kind place. I have not been to Anguilla so I cannot say. Ladera, while also incredibly unique will put you on a hillside much farther from the water then your rooms at Anse Chastanet. But the view from the rooms at both is unbelieveable. Have a great time whichever destination you choose.

patrick,
I've been to both Ang. and St. Luc in the past six months and I agree that they are two totally different islands/experiences. It really depends on whether you want relaxation or adventure. Anguilla has the most incredible beaches in the Caribbean: secluded, soft, dreamy. We swam, sunned, ate, napped, drank, slept, and swam again. YOu won't want to get out of the water. St. Lucia has breathtaking natural landscapes. You would probably want a guide to drive you around. Anse Chastenet is okay, black sand beached, and more crowded than I'd like. Ladera is gorgeous yes, but the view is the best part of trip I believe. A one day tour was enough! We could have moved to Anguilla immediately. I'd say: go to Cap Juluca and relax!
Any other questions, I'd be happy to help out.

I have never been to Anguilla, however my wife and I spent a week at the Hilton Jalousie in St Lucia. This is one of the nicest rooms we have ever stayed in. It is on a hillside overlooking the beach which is small. The view from the Spa is super. This is a very tropical island and remote. If you are into diving try the dive at the base of the pitons.
