Regent Palms will have someone there to "greet" you off the plane, then they just put you in a taxi anyway. When you step out of the airport, you will see someone holding a "Regent Palms" sign, they can help, or you'll see tons of taxis. Costs the same, weither Palms helps or not. Or if you're getting a rental car, you can have them meet you at airport. (Grace Bay Car Rentals costs $39 a day-if you want to go to supermarket, drive around explore, go to all the restaurants, it pays for itself!)

On my last trip to Provo in December 2007, I stayed at the Alexandra, which is next to the Regent Palms and about 1.5 miles from OCW. Since the Alexandra does not have a representative at the resort, I just told the taxi dispatcher where I wanted to go. Rates had just gone up, and my cab from the airport was $26 (same rate is charged for one or two people). My return trip was $25. So, it appears that the Regent Palms rate is discounted, but the OCW rate is higher proportionally. OCW is a little further away, so I suppose that could account for the difference.

Melinda,
IMO, there is no "right" answer for everyone with respect to renting a car or not in Provo. Personally, I have only rented a car for one day over the course of two trips, but I did use the Gecko shuttle, which is no longer running, to go to some restaurants, and I am very happy to spend most of my time walking or sitting on that beautiful beach!
OCW is very well located for walking to many restaurants, and they also offer a shuttle to their sister resort.
But, if you are active and want to go somewhere every day and/or think you will go out for dinner to places that are not in walking distance at least several days, the car rental probably is worthwhile. Also, you would need a car or take a taxi to go the grocery store. With three people, renting a car is about the same cost as the one way taxi fare to or from the airport. In your situation, I'd probably recommend making arrangements to rent a car upon arrival, but make sure that you can return it early if you decide you don't need it the entire trip.

We always get a jeep from one of the local rental places...not the best looking but usually the best price. For a couple of hundred dollars, it gives me the freedom to see everything that I want....plus I love going to Malcom Beach and Taylor's Bay and you can't walk to those. Even if you only get one for a couple of days, it's worth it. Maybe I'm weired, but driving on the left comes easy for me.
