airfare to Anguilla

i'm pretty much set on choosing a resort on Anguilla for our july 2004 honeymoon, but on the so-called discount sites, airfare is equal to the amount for hotel & meals for the whole week! and these were only fares to st. martin. is this to be expected?

Don't know where you're flying from but east coast fares (DC, Philly & Baltimore) run $400-500 round trip to St. Martin off-season. USAirways had a $390 round trip fare at some point last fall; I think we paid about $425 in mid-Nov. We always fly to St. Martin & take the ferry over as it's much cheaper than the Eagle & you get there earlier. However, Anguilla is enlarging its airport & will be able to take larger aircraft by 2004 so more flights may mean cheaper fares to Anguilla.

dreamizon,
do u want upscale resort(Cap Juluca or Maliohauana) or a FABULOUS laid back place? We have stayed at Rendevous Bay Hotel for year and loved it. THere are beachfront villas, golden retrievers and a very private beach. Alan, Una, and Jeremiah Gumbs own the place, which is the least expensive hotel on the island on an incredible beach. Not fancy just great-chec it out!

MaryD,
did you get those kind of rates through a resort, through the airline sites, or through a travel site. i could handle $1000 max for both of us, but beyond that would be a stretch.

mypyr,
rendezvousbay is actually one of the few i'm still considering, due to the low price and the decent reviews.

do you think we could get away with $1,000-1500 for lunches, dinners and miscellaneous stuff for a week's stay?

There is a very nice post and current information about Rendezvous Beach Hotel. Go over to cariibean on line Anguilla forum, lots of info for you. Where to eat at less expesive places etc. I love having lunch at Cedar Grove at RBH, it is laid back carrbean, the way it use to be!

I don't know where you would be flying from, but if it is the northeast, then check out this website
http://www.gwvtravel.com/anguilla.htm
This is the tour operator we used. Prices include airfare, ground transporation, etc.
