ok we are leaving in a couple of weeks and booked everything through our travel agent.
My question is, Our flight stops over in san juan for an hour and a half. I am reading that there is some type of ferry that we could take from st. martin instead (if we changed our flight).
I am wondering people have done and your thoughts....

What is your question? Is it about Newark, St. Juan, or St. Martin? A ferry from St. Martin to Newark?

Did you find out how long the ferry from San Juan to St. Martin takes?

My guess is that the ferry time is alot longer than a 1.5 hour layover!

If you look at a map you'll see St. Martin is about 150 miles from San Juan. I don't think there is a regular scheduled ferry (probably a cargo boat goes once or twice a week) but even if there were it would be about a 18 to 24 hour trip across some very rough water know as the Anegada Passage (afectionaly know by boaters as Oh-My-Godda Passage). You are much better off flying.

Hmmm, reading between the lack of information in your post, it seems that you might be inquiring about a ferry from St. Maarten/Martin to Anguilla, so that you fly directly from Newark to SXM and then ferry over, rather than fly directly into Anguilla via a connection in San Juan.

If that's the case, there is a TON of info on this site for you to peruse. All you have to do is search under Anguilla + ferry.

It also seemed to me that you were talking about the ferry from St. Martin to Anguilla. You might or might not save money, depending on the cost for changing your flight, but if you are asking whether or not you'll save more than 90 minutes in time, it's unlikely you'll save much time. You have to consider the time to get to the ferry from the airport and then whether your airline schedule will coincide exactly with that of the ferry. Who knows? There's at least some certainty with the air trip.

I don't see Anguilla mentioned in the original post.

It sounds like you are going to Anguilla. Continential has a daily flight out of Newark to SXM. We have done this trip many many times-non stop, no hassel. We prefer this route as it is non stop. If you are staying at Cap Juluca they are the only hotel to run a shuttle boat directly from the airport (across the street) for a $35/
person fee.

My recommendation is to fly nonstop to SXM whenever possible. I flew BWI-SJU-AXA many times and once AA started phasing out the ATR 42's, there were delays in San Juan and connections missed. When AXA was closed, I drove to PHL and flew nonstop to SXM and wouldn't want to go back to the connection route if I didn't have to. Now that AA has instated the ATR 72's I've heard (although not very recently) that there were still delays and connections missed. The nonstop route is just so much easier than waiting in San Juan. However, I take a private boat transfer from SXM to Blowing Point in Anguilla to avoid waiting for the ferry. It feels like a much shorter travel day.
