Suggestions for Puerto Rico resort before leaving on a cruise

Hi everyone,
My husband and I are taking a cruise through the Southern Caribbean in April. We want to fly to Puerto Rico a bit early and spend 1-2 nights at a resort, just relaxing before getting on the ship. This will be our first time in the Caribbean. Some of the resorts we are looking at are:

Westin Rio del Mar
Wyndham El San Juan
Marriott Stellaris
Inter-continental San Juan
Hyatt Dorado

Which would you suggest and why? We like a beautiful, tropical beach and pool area, nice rooms, friendly service, and good food. Also, how far from the Royal Caribbean cruise port are each of these resorts? Thank you in advance

Wyndham El San Juan - I just love this hotel. I have been to all you mentioned this is my favorite. There is so much to do on the property - shopping, dining, dancing, casino, pool area is beautiful - and open only to guests. There is so much there and the lobby is beautiful old mahagony and is really the center of activity. I would look at their website if you have not to see all they have to offer...

Also, distance - I assume you are leaving from the main cruise port in Old San Juan - the Rio Mar and Dorado would be the farthest away.

The Marriott, El San Juan Wyndham and the Inter Continental are about 15 min. taxi.

The cruise pier is in Old San Juan; if you stay in San Juan itself, you can get there by taxi in half an hour or so most times of the day. Of the hotels you've mentioned here, the Marriott is the closest (it's in Condado, an busy area in the middle of town within walking distance to good restaurants). The Wyndham El San Juan and the Inter-Continental are in Isla Verde, which is further out toward the airport and a nicer beach, but they're more self-contained; if you don't want to rent a car, you'll have to pay for taxis to go anywhere. The Westin is a more self-contained resort quite a few miles east of San Juan and not near anything else but is a good place if you want to go hiking in El Yunque, not if you want to sightsee in San Juan itself; it definitely has more of a resort feel. The Hyatt Dorado is a few miles west of San Juan, and has a good water park and is near great golf courses. All these are pretty good hotels, so it just depends whether you want easy access to other restaurants and nightlife (choose the Marriott) or a self-contained resort (choose the Westin Rio Mar or Hyatt) or if you just want to enjoy the hotel's facilities and nice beach (choose the Wyndham El San Juan, which I strongly prefer over the Inter-Continental).

Westin Rio del Mar - 20 miles or so
Wyndham El San Juan - 15 minutes by taxi
Marriott Stellaris - 10 minutes by taxi
Inter-continental -same as Wyndham
Hyatt Dorado - abut 25 miles

For a two night stay consider the Westin
One night stay - Wyndham El San Juan
