Abba in Jamaica?

I just read in a newsletter that the Swedish band, Abba is coming soon to Mobay..to the Halfmoon shopping village. I can't, for the life of me, picture an old school Swedish band in Jamaica. It sounds pretty silly to me. The last thing I'd expect to hear in Jamaica is "Dancing Queen." Makes me laugh.

The REAL Abba? I thought they were never getting together again.

Yep, the real Abba! But WHY? They were never funky enough for me, not even in ye olde disco days. If I were bringing an old school group to Mobay, I'd have to choose Earth, Wind, & Fire.

Although Jamaicans have a love and pride in their own musical traditions, they also love lots of other musical styles

I travel with an eclectic assortment of CD's and have given most of my country selections to my friends there ;-) I think Ray Charles and Tony Bennett and his duet album are somewhere on island. I think the only thing I can count on bringing home are my opera selections. But I may have a chance with Boccelli

"Mama Mia" may well be reason for a renewed interest in Abba. In the American Bandstand jargon, you can dance to it, and happily so

I just skimmed the little article in my MobayNews, but I think it's Ocober, I know it's at the shopping village, and the chefs at Halfmoon are preparing the food. Marion, I purchased a CD from the nicest, most talented young man in MB, Audley Scott. He included some unexpected tunes, like "Until the Next Teardrop Falls' and "Country Roads" in which he changed a few words that made it authenic. His lovely accent made the country selections even more listenable. Jagirl, I loved Bones...and your Jack in the box. So funny. So on behalf on my three cats, KC, Phoebe, and Sam and my two dogs, Elvis and Raney{named for a great character in Clyde Edgerton's book} we wish you all a happy day, full of joy and the sounds of music...all kinds!

I would assume its the Air Jamaica jazz festival - also slated to appear is Kenny Rogers - who for some reason growing up as a child was a big hit in Jamiaca. Jamiac's taste for music has always been eclectic.

The Mobay Happenings called it "Jamming In the Village,' and mentioned the Stocks restaurant there. If Kenny comes back, his fans might not recognize him after his facelift. {smile}

well thanks for the heads up on that one twigsbuddy.

I shall try to find out the date of that event and shall avoid visiting anyone on that side of town that night.
